Bill Gates made sure that his money was working for him by buying stocks in some of the biggest companies in the world. The man who started Microsoft owns shares in Coca-Cola, UPS, Crown Castle, and other companies. During one of his famous “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) sessions on Reddit, Bill Gates answered questions from different users. Inevitably, one of the questions was about how he invests and if he has any investment advice.
“What’s your best personal finance advice for people who make less than $100,000 a year?” The user might have expected a standard answer about saving or at least a small investment to help their money grow. Gates’s response was simple: “Invest in your education.”
Invest in your Education
This conversation happened more than 10 years ago, but it shows how important education is to the billionaire, who has said many times that it is the key to success. In fact, whenever he recommends new books, they are usually about complicated topics. Gates also read a lot to learn more about the things that interest him and the industries in which he invests, something he learned from his friend Warren Buffett.
Even business owners need to keep learning because they need to give themselves the chance to broaden their horizons and understand certain industries better.
So, it’s not surprising that a lot of Bill Gates‘ charitable work focuses on education, almost as much as it does on health. Over the years, he has given billions of dollars to education in the United States and around the world. One of his most recent investments was $1.1 billion in math education, which is an area he seems to struggle with. students.
So, Gates spends money on education in more than one way. But the truth is if you have money and are thinking about investing, one of the best things you can do is invest in yourself, and it doesn’t matter if you are under 40 or over 40. There is never a bad time to start, and doing so can help you see things more clearly.
