This time, the metal frame is flatter, and all the ports and buttons are in their usual places. It’s also claimed to have somewhat smaller overall dimensions than the Galaxy Z Fold 3, though it’s difficult to discern without holding the two devices side by side. Depending on how you intend to use the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the hinge feels sturdy and can be opened at different angles.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Features

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 now supports the ‘Nightography’ features, which is the company’s marketing jargon for improved low-light images and videos. Samsung has taken some of the camera hardware from the Galaxy S22 series. A 50-megapixel primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3X optical zoom and up to 30X digital zoom are all included in the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The selfie cameras appear to be unaltered.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a few changes, but the inner and outer displays are the same size as on the previous model. The inside foldable display has a more energy-efficient refresh rate range of 1Hz to 120Hz, while the outside display is now protected by Corning Gorilla Victus+ and offers an adaptive refresh rate of 48Hz to 120Hz.

Running on top of Android 12L is OneUI 4.1.1 on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The software is much the same as what we saw with the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but Samsung has included a new taskbar function so that whenever you open any app in fullscreen mode, the bottom row of apps on the homescreen remains pinned alongside the navigation controls. This idea was first presented by Samsung as a Labs feature on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but the Galaxy Z Fold 4’s execution feels less invasive.

Additionally, the taskbar will display any multi-window app pairs and frequently used programs. In addition to pinned icons, you can access the remainder of your apps through a drawer. Although I’m not a great fan of the slide-out app carousel, it is still an option if you want to use it. I believe this to be a better multitasking approach.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 also receives the frame-flattening treatment. Even though I don’t particularly like the shiny texture of the frame, the phone looks fashionable with this purple trim. Our main complaint with the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was its battery life, but happily Samsung has increased the capacity to 3,700mAh (up from 3,300mAh) this time for improved performance. Additionally, it is claimed that the battery can charge from empty to 50% in just 30 minutes. When it goes on sale abroad, this smartphone will have a starting price of $999.99.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4’s hinge is now 1.2mm smaller. Sadly, there hasn’t been any growth in the cover screen. Samsung says you’ll soon be able to send automated replies to specific messages from the outside display, though I wasn’t able to test this. It can still do all the same tricks, including allowing you take a selfie while the phone is folded.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 Verdict

Similar “Flex mode” features are available in some apps on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 when the phone is folded in half. With Flex Cam, a timed capture can be started simply placing your palm in front of the camera. The Galaxy S22 series’ “Nightography” characteristics are also touted by the Flip 4, although the wide and ultra-wide cameras on the Z Flip 3 appear to use the identical 12-megapixel pair of sensors.
