Knives Out 2: Everything We Know so far
Knives Out was one of the best movies of 2019 and surprised us with a whodunit story in which Daniel Craig had to do everything he could to expose the lies of a wealthy family and find out who killed an old millionaire whose money gave everyone a reason to want him dead.
The first movie, which was directed by Rian Johnson, starred Daniel Craig as a very smart detective, Ana de Armas as a nurse who couldn’t lie, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, and many other great actors who brought to life a strange family with a lot of secrets. In the end, he showed us that things are never what they seem.
Craig’s detective found out that it wasn’t really a murder, that the nurse was involved, and that the family he was looking into had more problems than they were willing to show. Knives Out had a great ending, but that was just the beginning of a story that, according to reports, Netflix will continue with a second and third part.
The official photo:
The first image of the movie shows the actors sitting around a long table, like in Da Vinci’s painting “The Last Supper.” Detective Blanc is asking them questions while Edward Norton argues from the other side.
All of them are suspects in a new murder, and Blanc has to figure out who is telling the truth once again.
The title:
Netflix says that the name of the sequel comes from Glass Onion (which is a phrase that also appears on a Beatles song). Song Facts says the following: “It’s what the British call a monocle. It is mostly used to make one eye see better.”
What could Knives Out 2 be about?
Netflix hasn’t said much about the plot, but based on what happened in the first movie (which reminded us of the Clue board game), we can be sure that Benoit Blanc will be asked to look into another murder case.
In the sequel to “Between Knives and Secrets,” written by Rian Johnson, Detective Benoit Blanc goes to Greece to solve a mystery involving new suspects.
We know for sure that there will be a murder, several suspicious people (like in Agatha Christie’s books), a lot of lies, and a detective who will have to do everything he or she can to find the truth and do right.
What do we know about Knives Out 2?
It has been confirmed that Netflix wants to make at least two more movies, and that the first one is already in the works. According to Variety, Daniel Craig will return as Detective Benoit Blanc, and Dave Butista, who also works on Guardians of the Galaxy 3, has just joined the project as a character whose name hasn’t been revealed yet.
Craig’s last James Bond movie, No Time to Die, is finally coming out this year. Craig and Batista worked together on Spectre, so this is also a reunion for the two actors, though we don’t know what their relationship will be in this movie. Bautista is probably going to be one of the people Craig will have to question and look into during the second movie.
Netflix paid $468 million for the rights to “Knives Out 2” and “Knives Out 3” in March. It is known that Rian Johnson will return to direct the sequel, which will start filming in Greece this summer.
A trip to the Mediterranean:
The first pictures from the sequel showed that Detective Blanc was back and going to the Mediterranean on a ship that reminded us of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. Behind him, you can see the new people who have something to do with a murder case he has to solve.
The cast:
The first actor to be confirmed was Dave Butista. Then, The Hollywood Reporter announced more actors who have already been confirmed. Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter said that Janelle Monae, who was in the movie Moonlight, has been cast in a role that hasn’t been named yet. Kathryn Hahn (aka “Agatha All Along”) from WandaVision and Edward Norton (Fight Club) will also be in it, but we don’t know what their roles will be yet.
Leslie Odom Jr., who was in One Night in Miami, and Kate Hudson, who played Penny Lane in Almost Famous, are the most recent people to say they will be in the movies. We don’t know who his characters will be just yet.
No one knows if more of the original actors will come back, but Ana de Armas, who was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the first movie, told Flaunt in October, “I hope that Rian will call me in 2021 as one of those surprises!”
Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista are all in the cast.
Also in the cast are Ethan Hawke, Madelyn Cline, and Jessica Henwick.
When is Knives Out 2 going to come out?
Production started last summer, so we won’t have to wait as long to see this sequel. Reports say that it will get to the platform on December 23.
In a talk with Variety, Daniel Craig said that “The second one was done in Greece in 2021, and the studio work was shot in Serbia. It’s already made. Rian [Johnson, the director] is working on the editing right now, and I think it will come out this fall.”
Knives Out 3 will probably have a different plot and bring together a new group of Hollywood stars who will be involved in some kind of murder mystery involving Benoit Blanc, but it probably won’t come out until the second part is done and on Netflix (which likes to see how a movie is received before giving it sequels).
