So, here’s my list of the best travel movies of all time. Which ones do you like most?

When all of my favorite movies were about crazy travel adventures, I realized I was obsessed with traveling.

When I finish watching any of these movies, I immediately want to pack up my things and go see the world. Over the years, great travel movies like these have given me a lot of ideas for my own trips. So let’s find out the best travel movies of all time and favorite ones.

Here is the List of Best Travel Movies of All Time

We arrange a list of the top 260 best travel movies of all time. Those movies have a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful scenery.

1. Wild (2014)

Cheryl Strayed decided to walk the Pacific Crest Trail to face her demons. Reese Witherspoon plays the inexperienced hiker who turns her life around in this inspiring movie based on her memoirs. Director Jean-Marc Vallée was adamant that the whole movie be shot on location. The journey begins in the Mojave Desert and goes to Mount Hood, which is the highest point in Oregon, and the beautiful Crater Lake. The journey ends at the famous Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks, which is on the border of Oregon and Washington.

2. Into the Wild (2007)

Into the Wild is the unbelievable true story of a top student and athlete who gives up everything he has and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wild. You’ll probably remember this movie for the rest of your life.

It’s an inspiring story that takes place in some of Alaska’s most beautiful places. If you only choose a few movies from this list to watch, this one should be one of them. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful scenery.

3. The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

In a play about a road trip on a motorcycle, Che Guevara did things in his youth that showed him what he wanted to do with his life.

This amazing movie is based on Che Guevara’s memoirs from before he was famous as a Latin American revolutionary. Guevara, played by Gael Bernal, and his friend Alberto “Mial” Granado, played by Guevara’s real-life second cousin Rodrigo De la Serna, get on a motorcycle and ride for eight months and over 14,000 kilometers across South America. The trip gave Guevara ideas for the rest of his amazing life. The movie will make you want to learn more about the continent, which is very beautiful.

4. Tracks (2013)

In Tracks, a young Mia Wasikowska plays Robyn Davidson, who spent nine months riding camels across the Australian desert. This is another movie based on a real-life story. Her trip starts in Alice Springs and ends in the Indian Ocean. Along the way, she stops at places like Uluru and Coffin Bay. Robyn was only with her dog and, at some points, a photographer, so it gives people who want to travel alone ideas (Adam Driver).

5. The Way

Dave and I have wanted to walk the Camino de Santiago in Spain for as long as we can remember. This movie is a tribute to the epic hike that is both happy and sad. Martin Sheen, a famous actor, walks the trail to remember his son Emilio Estevez, who died on the walk. Emilio Estevez was also a director.

This movie is about loss, regret, and coming to terms with it. Sheen’s character finishes what his son started, which helps him connect with and understand his son while he looks at his own life. This is one of the best travel movies of all time because it shows the best road trip ever and makes you think about the world in new ways.

6. Wild China

This six-part nature documentary series goes into detail about some of China’s most amazing natural sights. The animals and wildlife really come to life in a way that most people don’t see when they travel through China. Natural history is put together beautifully, and the result is an interesting documentary that everyone should watch.

7. In Bruges

This is by far the best movie about going places. One of the characters even carries a map around with them. We just watched “In Bruges” again, and it still holds up. If you like a good mystery that takes place in a strange place, you’ll love In Bruges.

I thought the writing and directing were great when Colin Farrell’s character kept saying how much he hated Bruges, Belgium, as he and Brendan Gleeson took the gondola through the canals. The more Colin Farrell’s character complained, the more you looked around at Bruges and saw how beautiful it is.

Colin Farrell kept talking about how much he hated Bruges while Brendan Gleeson learned about the city’s history and read about it in guidebooks. This made me like Bruges even more.

8. 180° South

This documentary will appeal to your sense of adventure and make you want to forget about the daily grind, pack your bags, and travel the world. The movie is about a group of friends who go on an epic adventure to Patagonia. With surfboards and climbing gear in tow, they learn about the decline of nature and the fight against industrialism. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful scenery.

9. Lost in Translation (2003)

Aside from being a great movie all around, it puts you in the middle of Tokyo’s chaos. Two characters, played by Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, are lost in their hotel. at least until they can go explore Tokyo on their own. They have put themselves in a box, and that makes them closer to each other. Together, they run away to Tokyo, which is always busy. The sights, sounds and energy will make you want to go to Japan right away. It’s one of my all-time favorite movies.

10. Happy Death Day (2017)

Happy Death Day is the kind of movie whose high-concept premise both helps and limits it. You know within minutes that it was pitched in a boardroom as “Groundhog Day meets Scream,” and that a bunch of middle-aged white executives nodded and started giving money and looking at headshots of pretty young women. Still, there are some good things about it.

The main character, “Tree,” is played by the charming Jessica Rothe. Most of the time, the movie is funnier than it needs to be, and it does a good job of getting the audience interested by making them think they know how it will end, only to surprise them in the last few minutes. Because of that, it is listed as the best travel movies of all time.

It’s another entry in the smart-alecky slasher genre, but it’s not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Given how the original story looped through time, it’s hard not to wonder if a sequel (which has already been filmed as of spring 2018) is really needed or even possible, but director Christopher Landon is still giving it a shot. If you ask us, Happy Death Day seems like a one-time thing that should be left alone. —Jim Vorel

11. Bella Vita

In the travel documentary Bela Vita, pro surfer Chris del Moror goes to Italy to learn about the country’s artisanal culture. He meets chefs, skilled craftsmen, and even Italian surfers who are part of the country’s growing surf scene.

This movie combines the high-life experiences of travel with the relaxing adventure of outdoor sports. It also shows the loving warmth of Italian culture through a cross-country road trip, which makes it a great way to travel without leaving home.

12. The Beach (I) (2000)

During his vacation in Thailand, Richard heads to an island that is said to have a beautiful beach all to itself.

Want to see Leonardo DiCaprio before he gets a dadbod? We’re sorry to burst someone’s bubble, but this isn’t about the Titanic. For the women who are reading this, the 2000 adventure movie “The Beach” shows a young Leonardo DiCaprio swimming shirtless in the beautiful, clear waters of Ko Phi Phi Lee. Because of that, it is listed as the best travel movies of all time.

13. Lion (2016)

Lion is for you if you want to cry and take a virtual trip to India. Based on a true story, it’s about a young Indian boy named Saroo (Sunny Pawar) who gets on the wrong train and ends up homeless in Kolkata. After being taken in by an Australian couple, Saroo (Dev Patel), who is now older, looks through his memories and the changing internet to find his childhood home and family. This movie has a lot of compassion and makes you feel like you’re traveling to places like India and Tasmania.

14. Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Under the Tuscan Sun is a love story set in the countryside of Tuscany. It’s a great choice for a relaxing evening because it has beautiful scenery, an Italian way of life, and a heartwarming life story.

This lovely, funny movie will make you want to go to Tuscany in Italy sooner than you think.

15. One Week (2008)

One of our all-time favorite travel movies. Not because it takes place in Canada (And we live in Canada). In the movie “One Week,” a young man who has been told he has cancer that will kill him takes a motorcycle trip across Canada. One Week made me want to see a country more than any other movie. Here is a full review we wrote about it. It really is the best Canadian movie about going on a road trip. Rent One Week Here on Amazon

I didn’t want to see this movie because it was about death, but it turned out to be a film about self-discovery that was uplifting and helpful. One Week is an ode to living and a love letter to Canada. I didn’t think it would be a travel movie at all, but it was. We’ve been to a lot of the places in this road trip movie, like The Big Nickel and the Terry Fox monument, so it’s great to see them on the big screen. It’s at the top of our list of pictures of the best travel movies for a reason.

16. The Legend of Tarzan

The Legend of Tarzan

With a budget of $180 million, the movie will show how beautiful the African Savannah, the thick jungles, and the majestic animals are. You feel like you’re in the middle of Africa. Really, you’ll like it a lot more than you think if you just rent it. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful scenery.

17. A Good Year

In this movie, Russell Crowe plays a successful London stockbroker who learns that there is more to life than money. Crowe inherits a chateau and vineyard in Provence, France, which he plans to sell. But as he’s getting ready to do so, he falls in love with the simple life of the French countryside and the local beauty. This funny comedy will make you want to go to the South of France as soon as possible.

18. Whale Rider

I saw this movie when it first came out. It really shocked me. In the story, a young girl in a Maori village tries hard to win her grandfather’s love. But Maori culture is the real star of this show. The modern life of a Maori is shown in a way that is true and makes people wonder and feel sorry for them. I met a member of the tribe shown in the movie while I was in New Zealand. He told me that the movie helped his people a lot. This movie made me interested in Maori culture, which is one reason I went to New Zealand.

19. Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

Even so, (spoiler alert) time travel doesn’t really happen until the last few minutes of the movie. Yet, by showing the strange relationship between a magazine intern (Aubrey Plaza) and a possibly crazy teddy bear (Mark Duplass) who says he’s built a machine that will take them back in time, director Colin Trevorrow makes a clever ode to the things that make time travel such an important part of pop culture.

As Plaza’s intern gets closer and closer to Duplass’s sad-sack misfit and is later joined by an editor (Jake Johnson) and another intern (Karan Soni), each character admits to deep-seated failures and the pain of knowing there’s no way to go back in time and try again. The movie’s ending probably takes a good symbolic theme too literally, but Trevorrow’s ability to balance heartfelt sweetness and existential anxiety makes him seem like a much better choice to direct Jurassic World than most people think.

20. Life in a Day

Why watch? Because it shows the real story of a day in the life of millions of people around the world and how we’re all connected.

As part of a project by Ridley Scott and Youtube, thousands of people from all over the world uploaded videos of a normal day in their lives on July 24, 2010. The result is an amazing work of art that is beautifully pieced together to tell a very interesting story…of life on earth in one day.

21. The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

Three brothers try to get closer to each other by taking a train trip across India a year after their father’s funeral.

The Darjeeling Limited is a crazy movie about three rich, spoiled brothers who take a train across India. They haven’t talked to each other in a year, and the trip is meant to bring them back together. At first, everything goes wrong because they fight with each other. All of them are depressed, and they take painkillers like candy.

When it seems like nothing is going right, their crazy adventures along the way help them see how things really are. Starting to heal and feel better is the ultimate goal. They’re finally getting older and becoming men. The movie is funny and also shot very well. Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time. You will want to go to India after reading it.

22. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)

This cute comedy-drama is directed by Oscar winner Taika Waititi and takes place in the New Zealand bush. In this winning family adventure, grumpy foster uncle Hec (Sam Neill) takes his mischievous foster kid Ricky (Julian Dennison) on a hike into the wilderness that turns into a thrilling adventure and a chance for the two to test their survival skills. Most of it was shot in and around Auckland, where the scenery is so beautiful that He calls it “majestic.”

23. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013)

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a fun story to watch with friends on a movie night. The movie shows some of the most amazing places to visit around the world.

A lot of the scenes, even those from the Himalayas and Afghanistan, are shot in Iceland and some in Greenland. After reading about Walter Mitty’s crazy adventures, you’ll want to go on your own crazy journey.

This movie is so good that it has made tens of thousands of people want to see more of the world and go to new places. If you only watch one of the best travel movies on this list, make it “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” You’ll love it!

24. Before Sunrise (1995)

We have a package with three of our favorite travel movies. And each shows off the place where it is. They’re about love, but they’re also a lot about going places. They were made 10 years apart and take place in three different places in Europe: Vienna, Paris, and Greece.

The Before Sunrise trilogies show what each place is really like. And here’s a cool fact: Dave and I stayed at the same place where After Midnight was filmed, Costa Navarino in Greece. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful scenery.

25. The Tourist

It’s a little self-centered, and Angelina Jolie is a little annoying with how great she thinks she is in this, but it does a beautiful job of showing what it’s like to travel in Europe.

The Tourist movie makes you want to go to Venice and have a romantic tryst. It makes you want to take a train ride and meet someone strange. It shows you how the rich life and how they see the world.

26. A Map for Saturday (2007)

This is the best travel movie if you want to know what it’s like to backpack around the world for a year. In 2005, Brook Silva-Braga quit a job that seemed perfect so he could do that. Follow a journey that few people are brave enough to take, and feel all the feelings that come with long-term travel in a very personal way. This documentary will show you the good and bad sides of traveling alone to 26 countries on five continents.

27. Lord of the Rings

Peter Jackson’s award-winning epic set in New Zealand will leave you amazed by the country’s beautiful and varied landscape. This movie was all about how beautiful New Zealand is, from its glaciers to its rivers, mountains, and forests. It started the modern tourism industry in the country and made it one of the best places for people who like to try new things. Lord of the Rings tours is available for die-hard fans. This movie shows super class action and war scenes Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time.

28. Austin Powers (1999)

In the second movie in the Austin Powers series, the main character, Austin Powers (Mike Myers), who has a lot of sex like most international spies in pop culture, goes back in time with Dr. Evil (also Myers) to stop his worst enemy from taking his “mojo.” The most impressive thing about this sequel, besides how well it did at the box office, is probably that it answered all the questions about how Austin Powers, who looks funny and has almost no respect for women, could possibly be able to kill every two-legged creature he sets his sights on.

It turned out to be just a purple goop made of syrup. In the movie that came before this one, Austin Powers’s ability to get girls to like him was explained by the fact that he was from “another time.” For example, “You wouldn’t understand, Modern Woman. It was another time, and women liked different kinds of guys back then.” Here, we see that “something” is in action. So, think of this movie as a meta-pick on this list: Here’s a movie from “another time” that makes direct references to yet “another time.” Watching this movie is like going back in time! Shagadelic!

29. Alamar (2009)

A documentary and true story about a young boy who is about to move to Rome with his Italian mother, but not before going on one last “adventure” with his father, “Alamar” (which means “to the sea”). The boy, his father, and his grandfather spend time together and live as traditional fishermen and divers so that the boy will always remember his roots and his connection to the sea.

30. The Bucket List (2007)

Two men who are dying of cancer sneak out of a cancer ward and go on a road trip with a list of things they want to do before they die.

The Bucket List will make you cry, but more than that, it will warm your heart and make you want to do all the things you want to do before you die, like travel. I think the movie also shows that life is too short and that we should enjoy it as much as possible.

31. On the Road (2012)

Based on a book by Jack Kerouac set in the late 1940s and early 1950s, the most famous road trip in literature didn’t get made into a movie until 55 years after the book came out. Sam Riley is a writer who drives and sometimes takes the bus to get to Denver, North Carolina, San Francisco, and Mexico. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has honest characters and beautiful scenery.

Here, you can go on a hedonistic road trip with sexually fluid bohemians played by Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Amy Adams, Tom Sturridge, and Kirsten Dunst, among other Hollywood’s hottest stars.

32. A Walk in the Woods

The book A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson and the movie A Walk in the Woods are both based on real events.

The famous author, who hasn’t done much hiking, sets his new book on the Appalachian Trail. This famous hiking trail runs through 14 states along the east coast of the United States, from Georgia to Maine. It is about 2,200 miles (3,500 km) long.

I haven’t read the book, and the reviews are a bit mixed (it seems that people either love or hate Bryson and his writing style). But I think the movie is funny and entertaining, and the scenery will make you want to get outside and go for a hike.

33. Planes Trains and Automobiles (1987)

John Candy and Steve Martin take an unplanned trip from New York City to Chicago by car across the country. This is the movie Dave thinks is the best one about traveling. If you want to watch a funny movie with a lot of heart, you can rent it today. This movie shows beautiful scenery Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time.

Some of the shenanigans are funny to anyone who has ever driven across the country. Have you ever stayed at a low-cost motel? You can relate. Have you ever sat next to someone who made you feel very awkward? You can relate! People say that this is one of the best comedies about traveling, but I think of it as a drama. The character played by John Candy breaks my heart. You might think of it as a vacation movie, but it’s also one of the funniest movies about traveling.

34. Away We Go (2009)

In this romantic comedy, John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph play a man and a woman who are about to have their first child. Since they don’t have a real place to call “home,” they travel around the U.S. and Montreal looking for a good place to start a family. On their way to find the place of their dreams, they meet wacky parents, friends, and old schoolmates who make them think and make them laugh.

35. Nowhere in Africa

Nowhere in Africa

A German movie based on the true story of a Jewish family that runs a farm in Kenya after getting away from the Nazis. The movie is about how they adjust to their new lives and deal with the old ones. Anyone who has ever had to learn a new way of life will understand. It’s not always easy, but this movie shows that once you let yourself be vulnerable, it’s possible. The film is in German, but there are English subtitles. It’s also one of my favorite movies in a foreign language, and it’s a great movie about traveling.

36. Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

Three friends who are tired of their lives take a weekend trip to their old vacation spot with their nerdy nephew to remember what life was like before everything went wrong. Sounds like a normal premise until you add a hot tub that can take you back in time if you get drunk enough.

After a wild night of partying with illegal Russian energy drinks, men in bear suits, and Chevy Chase, the tub takes the crew back to 1986, an important year for the group. In order to keep things the way they should be and not ruin their “present,” the guys try to relive their best memories, making new ones and stealing at least one Black Eyed Peas song along the way (humanity is fine with this).

Most people may find the humor a bit raunchy, but those are also the parts that make them laugh the most. It’s kind of like if Martin got the second chance he wanted in Grosse Point Blank: It’s about time that the hot tub got its due as a time machine.

37. Happy People

Even though Happy People isn’t really about traveling, the epic adventure of following the people who live in the “Taiga” of Siberia is such a journey that it feels like you’ve gone to Russia and followed them thousands of miles to the frozen frontier where they live for months.

38. Out of Africa (1985)

In colonial Kenya in the 20th century, a Danish baroness who owns a plantation falls in love with a free-spirited big-game hunter.

Based on the autobiographical novel by Isak Dinesen, this sad love story is about a married baroness who falls in love with a big-game hunter. It stars Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. Out of Africa was shot on location in the UK and Kenya, including the Shaba National Game Reserve. It has the epic feel of a love story between two very different people that are doomed to fail. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, and beautiful African scenery.

39. Captain Fantastic (2016)

This movie takes you right into the forests of the Pacific Northwest. There are lush green trees, the sound of birds, and a deer eating its way through the bushes. The deer don’t last long, though, because a group of kids led by Bodevan (George MacKay) kill it and bring it home for tea with their father (Viggo Mortensen, who is also in On the Road).

It’s a chance to live out your dreams of being off the grid before the family is thrown back into society on an entertaining road trip. This movie shows super class action Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time.

40. Amélie (2001)

If you haven’t been to Paris yet, this movie will make you want to go there right away. If you’ve been there, you’ll want to go back.

Amélie is a great example of a beautiful French movie. It will also take you to Paris’s most interesting places.

41. Julie & Julia

Julie and Julia stars one of the most talented and versatile actresses, Meryl Streep, and is also about travel and blogging. It’s as if it were made just for us! I was surprised by how much I liked this movie about Julia Child, which was based on her real life.

In Julie & Julia, the story of Julia Child’s life goes from her time in Paris to the present day in New York. Julia, played by Meryl Streep, loved Paris so much that she made you think it was the best place on earth.

It makes you want to eat French food and live a fancy life in France. If you had to pick a favorite movie about traveling, this one would be right up there.

42. Baraka (1992)

Mark Magidson, the film’s producer, says that the goal was to “reach beyond language, nationality, religion, and politics and speak to the viewer’s inner self.” Baraka is a collection of photographs taken in 25 countries on six continents that show people, natural events, and technological things. This documentary doesn’t tell a story, but it has a lot of power and prestige. It’s also beautiful, and sensitive, and changes the way we see the world. It goes beyond language and geography and makes us see the world differently.

43. Crocodile Dundee

Not only did these movies start Paul Hogan’s short career, but they also made everyone wish they were Australian. Dundee was like the Australian version of MacGyver. Even though the movies made some people think of Australia in a stereotypical way, they also gave Americans a connection to the country. Aussies were pioneers with a love for the wilderness, just like us. Even though it’s a cliche and an exaggeration, Australians do love nature, and the movie made a lot of people want to go to Oz.

44. Somewhere in Time (1980)

Forget all the complicated jargon and fake science. In this love story, all it takes to travel through time is the right props and the power of suggestion. When it came out, this movie with Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour was pretty much ignored, but it stays focused on the supernatural power of love. The fact that it’s still a cult favorite is enough to put it on the list, but for some, this is one of the most important time travel movies ever made.

45. Before Sunset (2004)

In the second movie, which takes place 10 years after the first one, Celine and Jesse are shown again in their familiar (to most people) state of unfinished love while living on different continents. By clearing up misunderstandings and slowly being honest, the two finally get to the thing that really brings them together. This is all happening as Jesse is about to fly out at sunset. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, a smooth screenplay, and beautiful scenery.

46. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)

After one of their friends gets engaged, three friends decide to take their dream vacation.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (You Don’t Get Life a Second Time): Instead of a traditional bachelor party, two lifelong friends (Hrithik Roshan and Farhan Akhtar) take a third (Abhay Deol) on a road trip through Spain.

47. Patagonia (2010)

The emotional heart of this drama about the connections between Wales and Argentina is how traveling can help people grow as people. A couple from Cardiff goes to Patagonia, where a Welsh-Argentine guide shows them around (Matthew Rhys). In the meantime, an older woman goes on a trip from Argentina to Wales to find out where she came from. It’s a moving watch with a fun story behind it: Rhys found out about the production when he was riding a horse through Patagonia and ran into the director, Marc Evans, who was looking for places to film.

48. Midnight in Paris (2011)

Midnight in Paris is a little different from the other travel movies on this list. And it might not be for everyone…

But if you like Woody Allen, Paris, and the way artists live, you’ll love this strange story set in 1920s Paris. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, a smooth screenplay, and beautiful scenery.

49. The Way Back (I) (2010)

The Way Back is based on an amazing true story about seven prisoners from very different backgrounds who try to escape from a Siberian prison in the winter.
This movie was shot in India, Morocco, and Bulgaria, all of which are beautiful places, and it has some great actors.

50. The Big Year

I put off watching this movie for a long time, but it was finally on one of the streaming services I pay for, so I sat down to watch it. In The Big Year, Jack Black (who doesn’t love Jack Black? ), Owen Wilson, and Steve Martin travel around the United States to see as many birds as they can and try to become the best bird watchers in the world. It turned out to be one of the most surprising movies about traveling I’ve ever seen.

They are crazy about seeing more kinds of birds than anyone else in a year. This movie spoke to me because it was more about the journey and how a big adventure can change a person’s life. No matter what you’re interested in, get out and see the world!

51. Easy Rider (1969)

This film about the counterculture is about a man who wants to be free in a corrupt and conformist America. Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) sell the cocaine they brought from Mexico to Los Angeles, and then they set out to get to New Orleans in time for Mardi Gras. Easy Rider will show you some of the problems that were going on in the United States in the 1960s. It will talk about things like the hippie movement, drug use, and communal living. This is one of the best travel movies of all time because it shows the best road trip ever and makes you think about the world in new ways.

52. Up in the Air

I live in a world like an airport. Maybe not as much as George Clooney’s character Ryan Bingham, but when I saw this movie, I felt too much like Ryan. Even though the movie has a happy ending in some ways, I didn’t like it. After that, I felt sad for hours because I could see myself in Ryan’s life. He is used to being in airports and on planes and is always going somewhere. He says that moving is life. The movie is a must-see for long-term travelers because it shows how living in constant motion can make us feel different things at different times.

53. Black Mountain Poets (2015)

This con artist comedy by writer-director Jamie Adams is set in a beautiful part of rural south Wales. Alice Lowe and Dolly Wells play sisters who are on the run and pretend to be famous beat poets at a Black Mountains retreat. What could possibly go wrong? As they camp out in the woods, the faraway place becomes a setting for their possible redemption and a lot of improvised comedy.

54. Encounters At The End Of The World

Encounters At The End Of The World is a travel movie about the people and animals who live in Antarctica. It is very beautiful and funny.

If you haven’t thought about going to Antarctica yet, you will after you watch this great documentary.

55. Everest

Since the 1990s, Dave and I have been interested in Mount Everest, and I have read almost every book about it. “Everest” by John Krakauer is the most well-known. What really happened on Everest in 1996, as told in its own words. Krakauer wrote it because he was on Everest at the time.

Dave and I hiked to Everest Base Camp in 2010, and we couldn’t believe we were standing where legends had been. But we were glad we didn’t keep going up the mountain to the top. That is a dangerous job. They stayed in tea houses and stopped at a monastery, just like we did in the book. Everything was so familiar.

56. Eat Pray Love (2010)

Based on the best-selling memoir of the same name, which also tops the list of best travel books, Julia Roberts plays Elizabeth Gilbert, a respected New York writer who leaves her miserable life behind to “find herself.” Her journey takes her to Italy, where she likes the food and way of life. In India, she meditates and prays, and in Bali, she finds true love and peace within herself. This movie will challenge you to keep your heart open and try to find your own happiness instead of trying to fit into the mold of what other people think your life should be like.

57. Any Indiana Jones

Everyone became an archaeologist and a person who likes to find new things to do. From Egypt to India, Indy showed us the world and the myths of ancient cultures. The movie brought out my sense of adventure and made me more interested in history. It was also great for Petra in Jordan. After seeing The Last Crusade, who didn’t want to visit the city? Even though the fourth movie wasn’t very good, these are still some of the best travel movies and some of the best movies of all time.

58. Timecrimes (2007)

This low-budget thriller by Nacho Vigalondo is probably the last proof anyone would need to believe that time travel may be the easiest science fiction idea to film on a tight budget. Like many other time travel movies, Timecrimes doesn’t take the contradictions in time travel seriously. It didn’t seem to bother people at festivals like Fantastic Fest, where it won Best Picture.

59. Meek’s Cutoff (2010)

You wouldn’t want to go on the same journey as these characters, but the scenery is beautiful from your couch. It’s loosely based on a famous event that happened in 1845, and it’s about a small group of settlers who travel across the Oregon High Desert and start to doubt their guide, Stephen Meek (Bruce Greenwood). Kelly Reichardt’s western shows how the roles of men and women change slowly as the stakes get higher. She has put together a great cast, led by Michelle Williams, Shirley Henderson, and Zoe Kazan.

60. World’s Fastest Indian

Anthony Hopkins rides his Indian Motorcycle to the salt flats to see how far he can go, from New Zealand to the United States. One of my favorite Hopkins plays is The World’s Fastest Indian. He is weak, likable, and a source of inspiration. Along the way, he goes on a fun road trip, but it’s not until he gets to the Salt Flats of California that you really want him to win.

This movie wants you to follow your dreams and shows that it’s never too late to do so. That’s pretty much what we live by! It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, a smooth screenplay, and beautiful scenery.

61. Eurotrip

Scotty’s girlfriend broke up with him after he graduated from high school, so he and his friends went to Europe to meet his German pen pal. Scene after scene is funny, and there are a lot of stereotypes about Europeans as they get into awkward and cringe-worthy situations. This is definitely one of the funniest movies about traveling ever made.

62. Thelma and Louise

This sad story came out in 1991. Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis play two women who drive across the American Southwest looking for adventure, friendship, and to get away from the law. The acting in the movie is so good that it won a lot of awards. It also has beautiful scenes of the American West that will make you want to get in your car and drive around the country.

63. The Lost City of Z (2017)

Explorer Percy Fawcett had a strong need to travel. He went on very dangerous trips in the Amazon to prove his ideas about a lost civilization, which his contemporaries in the early 20th century laughed at. In James Gray’s movie, Fawcett is played by Charlie Hunnam, his wife is played by Sienna Miller, and Robert Pattinson plays his right-hand man. Pattinson helps Fawcett get around in the rainforest, which looks beautiful but is full of danger.

64. Romancing the Stone

After seeing Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas in the movie Romancing the Stone, who didn’t want to go on an adventure in Colombia? As a kid, “I need to get to Cartagena” was always on my mind. I didn’t know where Cartagena was (it’s in South America, by the way), but I knew it was exciting.

Kathleen Turner went from being a scared writer who only wrote about the adventure to a woman who went on an adventure and met a rough, mysterious man in exotic Columbia.

65. Fitzcarraldo (1982)

In this German-language classic by Werner Herzog, based on the life of Peruvian rubber baron Carlos Fitzcarrald, an ambitious traveler goes on an eventful journey through the jungle. Klaus Kinski is known for being a wild actor. When he dreams of building an opera house in Iquitos, in the Peruvian Amazon, and taking a big steamboat down the Pachitea river, his wild eyes twinkle in a crazy way. The famously difficult shoot took place in the jungles of Brazil and Peru, where Herzog and cinematographer Thomas Mauch captured the costumes of the actors and the sights and sounds of the jungle.

66. 2 Days In Paris (2007)

This smart drama-comedy is written, directed, and acted by Julie Delpy. It takes the idea of a romantic city break and gives it a funny twist. She plays Marion, a photographer who lives in New York, and goes to Paris with her nervous boyfriend Jack for two days (Adam Goldberg). It goes by a lot of well-known places, like the Père Lachaise cemetery, the Pasteur metro station, and the Gare du Nord, in case you miss the Eurostar.

67. Roman Holiday (1953)

Go back in time to Rome in 1953, where Audrey Hepburn plays a princess who is trying to stay hidden. After she makes friends with an American reporter (Gregory Peck), he finds out who she is but doesn’t tell her his name so he can get a scoop. After that, there are romance and iconic black-and-white shots of Rome. Watch out for a meeting on the Spanish Steps, a tour of the Colosseum, and a Vespa ride through the city traffic.

68. Lawrence of Arabia

Dave and I saw Lawrence of Arabia on IMAX when it came out again years ago, and it made us want to go to the Arabian desert. People often say that this is one of the best travel movies ever made. It’s the first one, and it really does show how beautiful the Arabian Desert is.

When we got to go to Jordan and see where the real Lawrence of Arabia lived, we couldn’t believe we were in a movie. When our guides showed us where the real Lawrence of Arabia stood, we were so excited we could hardly stand it. You’ll want to go on an adventure and sleep in a Bedouin tent after reading this.

69. Sideways

I admit it. I didn’t drink Merlot for years after this movie came out. Sideways takes us on a road trip through the wine country of California, and it really is full of great performances.

We were in Santa Maria, California, last year. The same places where the movie “Sideways” took place, and all I could think about was how pretentious Paul Giamatti was about Pinot Grigio. It was a great drama-comedy for the 1990s. Sandra Oh, Virginia Madsen, and Thomas Hayden Church are all part of a great cast.

70. Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014)

Based on the best-selling book of the same name, Simon Pegg gives up his normal life as a psychiatrist to travel the world in search of the key to true happiness. His trip around the world leads to a modern love story with funny results. This movie is definitely an inspiration for people who are just going through the motions and want more out of life.

71. Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

A movie about a group of Australian drag queens who drive through the desert to get to a lip-syncing show. It’s funny, it makes you feel good, and it won a lot of awards. As the stars stop often on their way to their show in the Outback, people are shocked by what they see. Most importantly, it shows off the Outback and Australia’s great accents, which are two of the best things about the country.

72. Slumdog Millionaire – India

This movie was great. In 2010, we went to India, and it seemed to show the real slums of India. Many of the rich cities in India are modern, but this is what it looks like in the countryside and poorer parts of the country. It’s painful, real, and sometimes hard to watch.

73. Hit the Road: India (2013)

Follow Richard Gazarian and Keith King as they ride rickshaws across India for 12 days as part of the Mumbai Xpress. This travel adventure documentary follows the two as they go from Mumbai to Chennai. Along the way, they run into problems like a shaky car, bad weather, and police who are too busy to help. As their initial excitement fades, we learn how important it is to be determined and patient, even when we are traveling. This is one of the best travel movies of all time because it shows the best road trip ever and makes you think about the world in new ways.

74. A Good Year

Russell Crowe played a tight-fisted banker in this 2006 movie. When he goes back to his uncle’s vineyard, he finds his soul again. He just wants to sell it and make some money, but soon the countryside and a pretty French girl change his mind. (French girls make you change your tune all the time!) It’s a movie for people who like wine, and like Under the Tuscan Sun, it will make you want to go to a vineyard as soon as the movie is over.

75. Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – India

I really like the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. We always tell people that they’re never too old to try something new or go on a trip. It has a lot of great, well-known actors, like Dame Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, and Bill Nighy.

In The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a group of retired people go to India to spend the rest of their lives at a run-down hotel. All kinds of chaos and madness follow, as can only happen in India. There is love, loss, and hope.

76. Indiana Jones Series

Indiana Jones movies make you want to go places like nothing else. If you’re interested in history, you’ll want to look for historical artifacts from South America to Asia and in every desert and jungle in the world. Prepare to be moved by Indy’s fun and crazy adventures.

77. Seven Years in Tibet (1997)

This movie is about Heinrich Harrer, a German mountain climber, and his time with the Dalai Lama. It came out in 1997 and stars Brad Pitt. It’s an interesting look at Tibetan culture right before the Chinese took over. You learn about this faraway country and its ruler, who now lives in exile in India, from the point of view of someone who is not from there. Even though it’s not 100% true to history, it’s an interesting movie.

78. Australia

The critics really didn’t like this movie, but I thought it was great. Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman help her move her cattle across the Outback. It also talks about how unfairly Australia treated its Aboriginal people, which made me think of what Canada did to its own indigenous people with residential schools. It’s a love letter to Australia that’s beautifully shot.

79. Long Way Round

This DVD set and British TV show are about Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman’s 20,000-mile motorcycle trip. From the UK to New York City, the team goes through 12 different countries in Europe, Asia, Canada, and the United States. Their dream of adventure and test of endurance takes them through 19 time zones in just 115 days, and along the way, they visit UNICEF projects. This is one of the best travel movies of all time because it shows the best road trip ever and makes you think about the world in new ways.

80. Monsoon Wedding

This Indian independent film is about a traditional arranged marriage and how the bride rebels against it as the family gets ready for a four-day wedding. This is not only one of my favorite travel movies but also one of my all-time favorite movies. It is beautifully shot, has interesting characters, and shows a lot about Indian culture. I really think you should see this movie.

81. Eurovision

This movie is a lot of fun. I’m not a big fan of Will Farrell, but this is one of his best movies. After a short flashback, the movie starts in Iceland, showing off its beautiful landscapes and waterfalls with wide shots of the stars performing.

It uses all the usual ideas about Iceland, but it does so with heart and humor. It’s really a letter of love to Iceland. Watch as Lars and Sigrit try to make their dream come true by competing in the Eurovision Song Contest in Edinburgh. The movie also shows that city in a good light. It also explains what Eurovision is to people in North America.

82. Long Way Down

In the movie that came after Long Way Round, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman rode their motorcycles again. They started their trip in Scotland and are now in Cape Town, South Africa. During their 85-day trip, they went through vineyards, deserts, and jungles. This gave us a chance to see the beautiful sights of 18 different countries. Between problems at the border and motorcycle accidents, they show the ups and downs of road trips in a real way.

83. Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)

In this Woody Allen movie, two girlfriends spend their summer vacation in Spain. While in Barcelona, they both fall in love with the same painter. When his crazy ex-girlfriend shows up, everything goes crazy. This movie not only tells an amazing story, but it also shows the beauty, excitement, and magic of Barcelona (Woody Allen, what’s with you getting places right?).

84. Forgetting Sarah Marshall

This is a really fun movie that takes place in the real Turtle Bay Resort on the island of Oahu. Even though it only takes place in one place, it feels like a travel movie. In the movie, Jason Seigel plays a Hollywood writer who gets dumped by his girlfriend Kristen bell and goes to Hawaii to heal. It turns out that she is there on vacation with her new boyfriend, and shenanigans follow.

You’ll want to book a flight to Hawaii and stay at the now-famous Turtle Bay after watching this movie.

85. Planet Earth

This groundbreaking documentary gives you a unique look at our planet’s past and present, as well as how we are changing its future. The awe-inspiring TV show will show you some of the world’s most amazing natural sights. This interesting and informative series should be in your DVD collection. It shows everything from a langur monkey in India’s teak forest to emperor penguins in Antarctica.

86. Y Tu Mama También (2001)

In this movie, which takes place in Mexico, two teenage boys and a pretty older woman go on a road trip and learn some things about life, friendship, and each other. This movie won a lot of awards and helped Gael Garcia Bernal become famous.

87. Last Holiday

This should be at the top of your list if you want to watch a funny movie about traveling. This is the best story ever about how traveling can change a person’s life. And why we should all try to make our lives better. It’s not worth waiting.

Queen Latifa is worth a lot, but she has a disease that will kill her, so she spends her life savings on the last trip to a luxurious resort. She does a lot of different things, like base jumping, snowboarding, and eating French food. If everyone took a trip like this, our lives would be better for it.

88. Riding Solo to the Top of the World  (2006)

Gaurav Jani’s trip on his motorcycle is nothing short of amazing. Follow his journey from Mumbai to the Changthang Plateau in Ladakh with your seatbelt on. It is one of the most remote places in the world because it is right next to China, and Gaurav films the whole adventure by himself. He goes through rough terrain with no roads and temperatures as low as -40°C. In this amazing movie, you’ll feel what he feels as he goes through love, pain, hardship, beauty, self-doubt, and a spiritual victory.

89. Up in the Air

In this movie, George Clooney travels around the United States firing people for a living. It’s a good way to show what long-term travel can be like. As his life of constant travel comes under threat, he starts to rethink his philosophy of not caring about people or things. As he gets closer and closer to his goal of 10 million frequent flyer miles, he starts to realize how empty his life has become. Even though it’s not the most inspiring travel movie, it helps you remember the people and things that are most important to you.

90. Queen of Katwe (2016)

Queen of Katwe is based on the life of a young Ugandan girl named Phiona Mutesi, who learned chess by accident. She fell in love with the game and used it to change her life and get out of her poor background. The movie doesn’t try to hide the hard truths of life in Uganda, but since it’s a Disney movie, things don’t get too sad or dark. Overall, it’s a good “feel good” travel movie with a happy, inspiring story. It was kind of like The Queen’s Gambit in real life.

91. Samsara (I) (2011)

Even though there isn’t a single word spoken in this movie, the message is clear. The film, which was shot in 25 countries and doesn’t tell a story, will open your eyes to some of the world’s wonders and show you some of the things we try to ignore. You can use the pictures to find your way through holy places, industrial sites, and disaster zones. You won’t want to miss this one-of-a-kind sensory experience.

92. French Kiss

Kate, the character Meg Ryan plays, is afraid to travel. When her fiance falls in love with someone else in France, she makes a promise to win him back and goes there, even though she is scared. When she meets con man Kevin Kline and goes on a road trip with him, funny things happen.

The part I like best is when she eats cheese on the train. That French moment made me wish I could ride a train through the French countryside.

93. Jiro Dreams of Sushi

This film is about Jiro Ono, a sushi master who is 85 years old. He is thought to be the best sushi chef in the world because he was the first sushi chef to get three Michelin stars. This documentary looks at his life, his sushi, and his complicated relationship with his son, who has followed in his father’s footsteps and now runs Jiro’s world-famous restaurant. I really liked this movie because I love sushi. If you like Japan and Japanese culture, don’t miss this one!

94. My Life in Ruins

My Life in Ruins is a nice comeback for Nia Vardalos in a fun-loving travel movie. It’s not as good as My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but it’s still a good movie. She plays a tour guide in Greece who shows stereotypical tourists around the country. It is fun, romantic, and set in a beautiful place. This movie will take you to Greece. It won’t win any Oscars, but it’s a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

95. The Art of Travel (2008)

Conner Layne just graduated from high school. He finds out that his soon-to-be-wife is cheating on him. He decides to leave the suburbs and takes the next flight out. When he gets to Managua, Nicaragua, he meets a group of interesting foreigners and decides to join them as they try to cross the Darien Gap in record time.

The 100-mile journey between Panama and Columbia goes through a large area of undeveloped swampland and mountainous rainforest. Along the way, people have to deal with a lot of hard situations. The movie is a great example of adventure and exploration, and it’s a beautiful reminder that you should follow your own path as you grow up. It is one of the best travel movies of all time because it has a strong message, honest characters, a smooth screenplay, and beautiful scenery.

96. The Endless Summer (1965)

In one of the best travel movies ever, surfer and filmmaker Bruce Brown follow world-class surfers Michael Hynson and Robert August around the world as they look for the perfect wave. They go to Australia, Hawaii, Tahiti, Ghana, and a lot of other surf spots to find waves they can’t find in California. At the same time, they teach people in those places how to surf. Part travelogue and part surfing movie, the film will make you want to go to Cape St. Francis to catch “the perfect wave.”

97. The Hangover 2

The First Hangover was a lot better, and if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you do. It, too, is a travel movie that takes place in Las Vegas, but this one is much more fun because it takes place in Bangkok. It shows how crazy and busy the city is.

My favorite part of the movie is when Bradley Cooper has to go to the hospital and comes out with a bill that is way too low. Dave and I have been to the hospital in Thailand, so we can say that it is true. When you leave, you feel like you just took their time and service for nothing.

98. The Thing

Someone recently sent us an email with a list of their favorite travel movies. He said that the first Alien vs. Predator movie took place in Antarctica. I remember that movie being pretty fun. Then I thought about The Thing, one of Kurt Russell’s best movies.

This thriller takes place at a scientific base camp in the Antarctic, and you can really get a sense of how cramped and lonely it must be for researchers to spend the winter at the bottom of the world.

99. The Road Within (2014)

This movie is about Vincent (Robert Sheehan), Alex (Dev Patel), and Marie (Zoe Kravitz), who break out of a behavioral facility. They have Tourette syndrome, OCD, and anorexia, and they have to deal with the problems that come with them. As they drive for three days to take Vincent’s recently deceased mother’s ashes to the ocean, the personalities of these two unlikely friends clash. This coming-of-age movie will make you laugh and cry because it shows how hard it is for people with these disorders and their families.

100. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker & The Last Jedi

Star Wars

You might not think of a Star Wars set in space as a travel movie that makes you want to go somewhere, but the last movie in the Star Wars Trilogy was set in one of our favorite places on earth.

It was hinted at the end of “The Force Awakens” and emphasized in “The Last Jedi,” but “The Rise of Skywalker” was the movie that really showed how amazing Ireland’s Skellig Michael is.

This monastery from the sixth century was its own star as Luke taught Rey how to use the Force. Now, many tourists and movie fans want to take the scary boat ride to these rocky islands 12 km off the coast of Ireland.

101.  The Trip to Italy (2014)

We follow Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon as they drive around Italy. Liguria, Tuscany, Rome, Amalfi, and Capri are highlighted as the two enjoy expensive meals, funny impressions, and strange conversations. The grand tour of Italy by the Romantic poets is loosely retraced, and the beautiful scenery will make you want to book a flight right away.

102. Lord of the Rings and Hobbit

The Lord of the Rings movies may be set in Middle Earth, but they are a love letter to New Zealand. The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies make us want to visit New Zealand because they show how beautiful the country is. This movie shows super class action Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time.

103. Mama Mia

We found out where Mama Mia takes place when we went to Pelion, Greece, where the movie was shot. The Greek islands are a paradise, and Meryl Streep’s character in Mama Mia runs a hotel on the coast.

When her daughter gets engaged, she invites three men who could be her father. It’s a great time with music, games, and beautiful views. People who see the blue and white houses of Santorini, the clear blue sea, and the music of Abba want to go to Greece.

104. Grand Budapest Hotel

I just love Wes Anderson movies and can’t help it. He is odd and strange. One of the best travel movies that aren’t set in a real place is Grand Budapest Hotel. All of this takes place in a made-up world.

This is a good travel movie for me because it makes me think of grand old hotels from another time. Well, it should, since it takes place at a different time. Even though the hotel is made up, it does take you to another world.

105. Up

Carl Fredricksen, 78, sells balloons. To keep a promise to his dead wife, he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to explore the wilds of South America. Russell, an eight-year-old who loves to explore the wilderness, got stuck in the house when it took off by accident. The movie made by Pixar is about their funny, once-in-a-lifetime adventure and the people they meet along the way.

106. Once Upon a Time in Mexico Trilogy

How hot are Salma Hayak and Antonio Banderas together? For this series by Robert Rodrigues to make sense, you have to watch all three parts. Once Upon a Time in Mexico is the last movie in the trilogy. It stars Cheech Marin, Salma Hayek, and Antonio Banderas. It all started with El Mariachi, which starred Carlos Gallardo. Desperado is my favorite of the three, but they are all fun.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico is a fantasy and a stereotype of Mexico, but it makes you want to go to Mexico and have a great adventure. The setting is beautiful, the movie has a cool style, and the music is great.

107. Black Panther

Even though Wakanda is not a real place in Africa, this movie shows how East and South Africa feel. It is based on the culture of Africa, and many of the scenes were shot there. We’ve been to Africa many times, but this movie made us feel like we were there again. If you haven’t seen it. Black Panther shows super class action Because of that, it took place of the best travel movies of all time.

Most of the time, these movies take place in strange places and play with historical myths.

During this time, Indian action movies were called stunt films.
