Virtual Reality (VR) is an idea that has been around for a while. In the beginning, it cost a lot of money to play VR games. Over time, powerful virtual reality headsets have become available on the market at prices that aren’t too high. First-party VR games are being made by game developers. The newest technologies and improved ports can make the most of what VR media has to offer. At this point, gamers all over the world are getting into virtual reality games. Let’s look at the most popular virtual reality games you can play right now.

Top 10 VR Games to Play Free of Cost in 2022

1. The Lab

Valve made their headgear and controllers, and Half-Life: Alyx came out in 2016. In 2016, they released The Lab, a collection of Aperture Science-themed minigames that were meant to get people used to virtual reality.

The Lab is better than any other VR minigame or lesson for getting started if you want to go back to a Valve world, even if it’s on a smaller scale, and if you want to try out VR. The game can be played on Oculus, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality.

2. A Township Tale

A Township Tale has RPG elements such as crafting, equipment, jobs, and exploring. It can be played alone or with a group, and the graphics look like those of RPGs from the 2000s, like Runescape, which was more colorful. But all of this is done in VR.

A Township Tale is relaxing in the same way that Valheim is. Most of your time will be spent getting resources, getting stronger, exploring, meeting other players, and playing with them.

The Vive, Index, and Rift headsets can all be used with A Township Tale. As development goes on, it may be able to support more devices.

3. VRChat

Even though it’s not a game, it feels like more than that. VRChat is a place for people to meet online. With it, gamers can make avatars that look like them and move in sync with their movements and expressions. Games can also use VRChat to play minigames, discover new worlds, and watch videos.

VRChat was made by VRChat Inc. and became available in 2017. Even if there are some technical problems, the experience it gives you is still unbeatable. Because of its unique features, the game is the most popular online chat game in the world.

4. Dagon by H.P. Lovecraft

If you like thrillers and scary movies that make your brain hurt, you should try the new VR game Dagon. Bit Golem put it out for the first time in 2021, and horror fans have loved it ever since. Applause is given not only for the game’s unique storyline but also for how well it shows real horror.

Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft in VR is a great game for people who like scary games. You won’t get hooked on it in a second and not be able to stop until you’re done. Now, you can play the game on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Valve Index.

5. Astral Slider

Beat Saber has taught us one thing about virtual reality games: simple games that work well will always be very popular. Astral Slider is quickly becoming one of the best virtual reality games and also one of the most popular ones. Your goal is simple: move along a road that looks like Tron by cutting red boxes and avoiding black ones. It’s easy to understand, but hard to master!

With Oculus Quest, you can get to Astral Slider. Astral Slider has a small number of fans, but most of the reviews on Steam are positive.

6. Echo VR

Echo VR was one of the first VR games to come out, but it is still one of the best and most well-known free VR games of all time. This VR experience is for people who like science fiction. It is one of the most violent free VR games you can play because you have to throw a frisbee into your opponent’s goal while there is no gravity.

With Oculus Quest, you can use Echo VR. Because the game is so active, many players say that it has helped them work together better and even made them healthier.

7. Ultimechs

VR is getting a good collection of multiplayer games quickly, but it hasn’t yet made a hit like Rocket League. Even though it’s too soon to tell if Resolution Games’ game will be that game, Ultimechs has the combination of being easy to get into and having a lot of depth that makes these kinds of projects so popular.

On September 15, 2022, Ultimechs became available on HTV Vive, Valve Index, and Oculus Rift. Ultimechs has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, and there are no bad reviews of it on Metacritic right now.

8. Fly Dangerous

In Fly Dangerous, a racer made by Stargoat Games that is now in early access, players control a fast-moving spaceship from the cockpit. To be clear, the main point of this game is not to simulate flying. Instead, it is more of a racing game in the arcade style.

Fly Dangerous got early access on May 24, 2022, and can now be played on the virtual reality platforms Valve Index, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift.

This space racing game doesn’t have any reviews yet, and this isn’t likely to change while the game is still in early access. It has gotten a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, which means that playing it is, on the whole, a good time.

9. Google Earth VR

Even though it’s not a game in the traditional sense, this virtual reality experience is a must for anyone who wants to see the beauty of Earth for themselves. This is not just an improved version of Google Earth. Any area that Google has mapped can be explored in three dimensions and enjoyed at the player’s own pace.

On November 16, 2016, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive virtual reality headsets got access to Google Earth VR.

Many people might say that this is more of a separate feature than a real game, but people who use it seem to have a lot of fun with it.

10. Horizon Beyond

Most free VR games are meant to introduce newcomers to the technology. Horizon Beyond helps ease individuals into virtual reality, even if headsets have been around for a while.

Horizon Beyond is a short game that takes players on a ship and lets them observe cloud vistas. Horizon Beyond highlights VR’s capacity to transfer people to other worlds for free.

Horizon Beyond was launched for HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Valve Index on August 31, 2019. Horizon Beyond is a 20-minute game that most people won’t replay. Although the VR game didn’t do well on Metacritic, it did well on Steam.
