According to a report, Google’s parent firm Alphabet is prepared to cut off some 10,000 “poor performing” employees.
The Information revealed last week that the company’s new performance management system might assist managers in terminating thousands of unproductive staff beginning early next year. Under the new system, supervisors have apparently been requested to label over 10,000 Alphabet employees as poor performers, or 6% of the total.
This technique may also lower the quantity of employee bonuses and stock grants. This year, the corporation has encountered a number of obstacles, including the effects of the epidemic and soaring inflation.
Alphabet’s third-quarter profits decreased by 27% compared to the same period last year, with weaker-than-expected earnings and revenue. In July, Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated, “It is evident that we face a tough macro environment with more uncertainty ahead.” Throughout the preceding months, he has urged employees to increase output.
“I hope that everyone is reading the news externally. In a meeting with staff, he stated, “I think it’s crucial that we, as a firm, pull together to get through times like this, given the fact that we are being more responsible during one of the most difficult macroeconomic conditions in the past decade.”
As a reaction to worries that the company’s overall productivity “is not where it needs to be for the number of employees we have”, he launched the “Simplicity Sprint” initiative earlier this year.
Media reports indicated last week that Amazon was planning to lay off 10,000 employees from its devices organization, retail business, and human resources section.
