Richarlison scored twice in the second half as Brazil defeated Serbia 2-0 at the Lusail Stadium in Group G. After failing to break into Serbia’s defense for more than an hour, Richarlison scored twice in the final nine minutes to give Brazil a comfortable win.
Vinicius Jr was involved in both of the objectives. Brazil had struck the crossbar several times during the game, and Vanja Milinkovic-Savic had also made some good stops before the second half. Serbia, on the other hand, didn’t have much to give up front, with Alexander Mitrovic and the company struggling to create an impact.
Richarlison’s prolific scoring streak for Brazil continued as the five-time champions broke the will of a tenacious Serbia with a second-half double from the striker.
For much of the first half, Brazil dominated possession but was unable to pose too many questions to a well-drilled Serbia defense. Instead, they had to rely on individual ingenuity and inspiration, with Neymar’s superb inswinging corner just being clawed away by goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovi-Savi.
With Vinicius Junior appearing to be Brazil’s most likely source of a break on the left, his opposite flank Raphinha came closest to breaking through after exchanging passes with Lucas Paqueta, only to poke straight at the goalkeeper, who also saved sharply at Vinicius Junior’s feet.

Brazil started the second half quickly, with Vanja Milinkovic-Savic having to deny Raphinha within seconds of the restart before Neymar sliced wide from Vinicius Junior’s cross.
On the hour, Alex Sandro sent a long-range shot off the post, but the South American team had taken the lead two minutes later. Neymar made the first excursion into the area, the ball breaking for Vinicius Junior, and while Milinkovic-Savic saved his low effort, Richarlison was on there to convert the rebound.
The Tottenham striker’s second goal was even more remarkable, a flick into the air from Vinicius Junior’s low cross preceding a magnificent volley that brought his international tally to nine goals in his past seven outings.
Brazil pushed forward in the closing seconds, with Casemiro curling against the crossbar, but the South American team had already clinched a comfortable first-leg victory.
