Bertelsmann Stiftung looked at about 48 million online job ads from the last three years and came to a clear conclusion: soft skills, such as personal and social skills, are one of the most common things that companies look for in candidates.
Prudence Scores More than PC Knowledge
In almost every way, everyday work has changed a lot in the last few decades. The reason for this is the digital revolution, and we also can’t forget about the Covid 19 pandemic. Changes brought on by the home office and hybrid models can also be seen in the jobs that companies are advertising. So, according to the study’s findings, there was a big rise in the need for soft skills like prudence (+73%), empathy (+39%), and a positive basic attitude (+26%).
The study shows that people also want more secure data management (+62%) and digital identity (+34%). Experts say this could be a result of the Covid 19 crisis when employees had to talk to each other more from home and online. Because being able to get people to work together is also in style (+37%) in the age of virtual teams.
New Demands Demand New Soft Skills
The recent pandemic may have also made companies look for people who are willing to work hard because things were so unstable. Nearly a third of the job ads that were looked at asked for the ability to work in a team, and a quarter of them asked for the ability to work alone. In 20% of job ads, people want someone who is reliable. Creativity and persistence, on the other hand, aren’t as important as they used to be.
Shortage of Skilled Workers Changes Needs
But knowing a second language, especially German, is becoming more and more important. This is something that the study pays special attention to. In 2018, knowing German was required for one out of every five jobs. By 2022, it will be wanted in one out of every four jobs, which is a 28% increase.
This is a great chance for people who have put in the time to learn a new language. If they have the right professional skills and also speak German, they could have third more jobs, according to the study.
