OnePlus 10R Review: Key Features, Specifications and Price

On April 28, 2022, the OnePlus 10R 5G came out. Just a month after the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G, came out. OnePlus has released all of the devices in its flagship series at the same time. But this time, the company has put them out on their own. The first one to come out was the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G (review). Then came the OnePlus 10R 5G, and soon the OnePlus 10T 5G. (August 3, 2022). I don’t know what the plan is there, but the OnePlus 10R 5G isn’t quite as good as a flagship device. It’s more of a mid-range smartphone with high-end features. Here’s what I think about it.

Design

When it comes to design and overall look, I like the OnePlus 10R 5G the least out of all the OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 9R‘s camera bump was a big turnoff for me, but the OnePlus 10R 5G’s camera bump is even worse. I don’t understand why OnePlus doesn’t make its ‘R’-branded phones look good. The OnePlus Nord 2 and OnePlus Nord 2T look better than the OnePlus 10R 5G, to be honest. Well, this is just my opinion, but the OnePlus 10R 5G doesn’t look like a premium phone to me.

The front and back of the body are both made of plastic. At the back, there are two different textures, which, to be honest, don’t make a difference to me. On the black version I had, the OnePlus logo at the bottom right is almost impossible to see. I don’t know what else to call it, but the camera bump just makes me feel bad.

The smartphone’s power button is on the right side, and the volume rockers are on the left. Most of the edges are flat and quite thick.

At the bottom, there is a USB Type-C port, the speaker grill on the right, and the SIM tray on the left. I like that the bezels on all sides aren’t too big, especially on the chin, where they could have made the device look really bad. It’s 16.33 cm long, 7.55 cm wide, and 0.82 cm thick, and it only weighs 186 grams, so it’s not too heavy. Let’s look at the screen of the thing.

Display

The OnePlus 10R 5G has a 6.7-inch Fluid OLED screen with a resolution of 2412 x 1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The top is made of Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it, and the refresh rate can change depending on what’s on the screen.

This smartphone has a pretty good maximum brightness level. There’s nothing too big or too small. One thing I’ve always said is that OnePlus gives customers a great way to interact with their screens. OxygenOS 12 is a big reason why OnePlus is able to do this.

There is no extra software, the transitions are pretty smooth, and the touch is very responsive because it has a 360Hz touch response rate. This smartphone is good enough for watching videos. The sound it makes is also pretty good. When I tried to unlock the phone, the fingerprint sensor built into the screen worked pretty well.

The edges of the screen are flat, and the device is pretty boxy, which can make it feel a little strange to hold for long periods of time, like the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series.

Performance

As expected, the OnePlus 10R has a great performance. It has a MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX chipset, which is OnePlus’s own version of the Dimensity 8100 processor. When it comes to memory, you can choose between 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

During my testing and use, the Dimensity 8100 Max did a good job and performed well, just like the Snapdragon 888. The phone was pretty easy to use and worked quickly.
Performance-wise, there isn’t much wrong with the OnePlus 10R, which is good news for people who might buy it. The phone can easily handle high-end games and a lot of tasks at once.

Most game developers have optimized their games for Qualcomm chipsets, so at least for now, this phone’s game optimization isn’t as good as Qualcomm flagships. You will have to wait a few months before the most graphically demanding games are optimized for MediaTek Dimensity 8100.

We tried to play BGMI, Asphalt 9, and COD: Mobile, among other games. As expected, all of the games ran well with high graphics. At this price, it’s disappointing that BGMI can only go up to HD+High settings. With any luck, an update will come out soon to fix this.

But what stands out here is not how well it runs, but how it keeps itself cool. The 10R has the biggest vapour chamber the company has made so far. It also has graphene and graphite thermal pads. The end result is amazing because the phone stays at a healthy temperature even when it’s being used a lot for gaming.

Software

Oxygen OS 12.1, which is based on Android 12, is the software that the Oneplus 10R uses. OxygenOS 12.1 is mostly the same as ColorOS 12, but there are a few small differences. Once upon a time, OxygenOS was known for its clean and uniform look. When it was combined with ColorOS, however, that all changed.

It was nice to see that the device didn’t have any useless software. You will also get a number of helpful features that are already built into OxygenOS. Some of these features are a private vault, a dark mode, and different gestures.
One of the cool things about OxygenOS 11 is that you can change the way the navigation buttons work by giving them different shortcuts when you hold them down or double-tap them.

A screen called “Hidden Space” was another helpful feature. Users were able to hide icons from the app drawer with this feature.

The company has said that the 10R will only get two major OS updates and three years of security updates, which puts it behind Apple, Samsung, and even Xiaomi’s flagship phones.
