Pierce Brosnan, who played James Bond from 1995 to 2002, is now venturing into the world of superheroes. The British actor co-stars with Dwayne Johnson in the new DC film Black Adam. Brosnan plays Kent Nelson, nicknamed Dr. Fate, a wizard with ancient Egyptian powers in the new thriller.
The truth is that, while Pierce Brosnan‘s debut as a superhero is exciting, it might have happened decades ago.
Pierce Brosnan could have been Batman
The former James Bond revealed on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show how he auditioned for the role of Batman in the 1980s, when Tim Burton was working on the adaptation. But, sadly, it did not go as planned. “I tried out for Batman right around the time Tim Burton was working on it.” Obviously, I didn’t get the part, but I do recall making a foolish remark to Tim Burton. ‘I don’t understand why a man wears his underpants over his pants,’ I said. The part went to the best actor he could be, and he delivered. “And you know, in the end, I think Dr. Fate and I were more suited for each other,” Pierce Brosnan told Jimmy Fallon.
Finally, Michael Keaton was able to don the Dark Knight suit and is acknowledged as one of the best actors who have played Batman, and the British were unable to stop him. Pierce Brosnan returns to the DC universe as part of the Black Adam group, more than 30 years after that slight mistake, and his portrayal may continue for years to come.
