Top 5 Books You Must Read this Summer: Bill Gates

Summer is here, which means one thing for readers: Bill Gates has a new list of good books that he thinks the top 5 books you must read.

People know that Bill Gates likes to read. He thinks that reading is one of the reasons he has been so successful up to this point, and he makes a lot of time for reading in his daily life. Reading helps you learn a lot more, open your mind (and maybe even improve your spelling), and even be more creative and come up with better ideas.

Because of this, Gates makes a summer reading list every year, which he posts on his blog Gates Notes. On this list, he writes about the books he liked best, which taught him something important, and which he thinks every reader should read. 

This time, Gates says the books on his list are about “gender equality, political polarization, climate change, and the hard truth that life is never what young people think it will be.”

Title: The Power

Author: Naomi Alderman 

Gates said that her oldest daughter told her about this book, and that she thought it was a good way to think about gender roles and equality. Ella Gates wrote, “By reading The Power, I got a stronger and more real sense of the abuse and unfairness that many women face today.” Now you get a idea that these top 5 books to read.                             

In Aldreman’s book, a group of teenage girls find out they can control electricity and even use it to kill other people. This makes them a major threat to society and makes them want to change the world.

Title: Why We’re Polarized

Author: Ezra Klein

Gates says that this book is important for understanding modern politics and how it divides us. He also says that it is “a fascinating look at human psychology.”

Klein’s book tries to explain how American politics turned into a toxic system that made people very divided, especially after Donald Trump became president, and what this means for the present and the future.

Title: The Lincoln Highway

Author: Amor Towles

Gates had already suggested A Gentleman in Moscow by Towels, which is one of the best spy novels you can read. Now he suggests a new book by Towels. This story takes place in the 1950s in the United States. An 18-year-old who just got out of jail for murdering someone by accident must go to Nebraska to find his younger brother and try to start a new life with him, but things don’t go as planned.

Gates says that “Towles is inspired by the journeys of famous heroes and seems to say that our own journeys are never as linear or predictable as we might hope.”

Title: The Ministry for the Future

Author: Kim Stanley Robinson

Gates says that he chose this science fiction book because it talks about climate change in a way that is both dramatic and true to life. That’s why, these best 5 books to read.

The book tells the story of the Ministry for the Future, which was set up in the year 2025 to protect people and animals and make sure the human race would survive. However, everything seems to be in danger at one point, and the Ministry must do everything it can to save the planet.

Title: How the World Really Works

Author: Vaclav Smil 

This is one of Gates’ favorite authors, and this book is about “the fundamental forces that shape human life,” as Gates himself says.

The book looks at the past, the present, and the future.
