Why Hurricanes Will be More and More Intense?

At the moment, it’s becoming more common to see hurricanes get stronger quickly, and the chances that when one forms, it will get bigger seem to be going up, according to a researcher who spoke at a remote conference broadcast by the National University Autonomous of Mexico.

In the “Current Overview of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate Change” conference series, Purdue University researcher Dan Chavas used Hurricane Patricia, which hit land in 2015 with winds of up to 345 km/h, as an example of how quickly one of these natural events got stronger.

“We are seeing more and more of these kinds of behaviors. Maybe there is more agreement, and I think peak intensity is harder. It’s hard to tell if storms are getting stronger or not, but more hurricanes are getting stronger, which is a sign,” the expert said.

Chava, who has a PhD in atmospheric sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), gave a talk on the use of experimental laboratory models to understand tropical cyclones on Earth. In it, he talked about how computer studies can be used to learn about their behavior over time and simulate how it changes.
