Poco F4 5G Review, Key Features and Full Specifications

Poco F4 5G

As we saw in our first impressions, this Poco F4 5G review tells you about a good mix of features and the price it sells for. But this phone faces tough competition from brands like OnePlus, iQoo, and even Xiaomi, which is a close relative. At this price, it’s time to find out if the F4 5G is worth buying or if you’d be better off with something from one of these other companies.

Poco F4 5G Features and Specifications

Poco F4 5G design

The frosted glass back and matte frame of the Poco F4 5G make it look like a high-end phone. It’s a little bit on the heavy side, weighing about 195g, but at 7.7mm, it’s not too thick. Even though the phone has a flat frame, the edges are rounded so they don’t dig into your palm when you hold it.

The buttons were something I couldn’t get used to. The power and volume buttons are both on the right side of the phone. I don’t like how they are recessed and stiff, which makes them harder to use. They all have the same feel, which can make it hard to tell which one you want, especially since the fingerprint sensor is in the power button.

Poco F4 5G headphone

There is no headphone jack on the Poco F4 5G, but it does have stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and an infrared emitter. The retail package comes with a case, a 67W power adapter, a data cable, and even a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter, which is nice.

One of the best things about the Poco F4 5G is its screen, which should appeal to people who watch a lot of media on their phones. It has a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.67-inch E4 AMOLED screen. The Netflix app lets you watch videos in Dolby Vision HDR. The screen can also play HDR10+ videos. You get a screen with a resolution of full HD+ and a pixel density of 395 ppi. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen from scratches. The Poco F4 5G has a screen protector that is already on it. This screen protector tends to get a lot of smudges and fingerprints. So, read this Poco F4 5G review first and then look for the phone in the market.

Software for the Poco F4 5G

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC is used in the Poco F4 5G, and up to 10 5G bands can be used in India. There is also dual-band Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and the usual set of sensors and satellite navigation systems. Poco says that the F4 5G’s SoC stays cool under load thanks to a vapour chamber and graphite sheets. For more precise haptics, the phone also has an X-axis linear vibration motor.

Poco said that the F4 5G has an IP53 rating for resistance to dust and water, but I couldn’t find any mention of this feature in any of the company’s marketing materials or on its website. The phone has a 4,500mAh battery and can be charged quickly by wire at up to 67W.

MIUI 13 (v13.0.3), which is based on Android 12, is what the Poco F4 5G uses. During this review, the phone did get some updates, with the June 2022 Android security patch being the most recent. MIUI is usually a pretty bloated skin on Xiaomi phones, and many of the first-party apps are known for sending you a lot of annoying notifications. Even though apps like GetApps and Themes come preinstalled on the F4 5G, there is almost no notification spam. On the other hand, Poco hasn’t promised long-term updates for the F4 5G (yet).

The user interface is smooth and easy to use, and there are many ways to change it. The always-on display can be changed to your liking, and on the F4 5G, you can turn it on all the time or set it to turn on at certain times, which you can’t do on some of Poco’s other phones, like the X4 Pro 5G. (Review). There are also all of the usual shortcuts and gestures for MIUI.

Battery life of the Poco F4 5G

The Poco F4 5G ran quite well, and I didn’t have any problems with how it worked. The fingerprint sensor worked well for authentication, and I like that you can choose to turn it on by touching the screen or pressing the power button. As long as there was enough light, face recognition also worked well.

The Poco F4 5G’s screen looked great when HDR content was streamed over the Internet. The colors were bright and there was more than enough light. Netflix shows with Dolby Vision looked good, and HDR videos in general were a lot of fun to watch. The stereo speakers can be turned up very loud and sound good. The F4 5G was also great for playing games. Games like Asphalt 9: Legends and Call of Duty: Mobile, which are very popular, worked well.

Poco F4 5G cameras

The Poco F4 5G’s main camera has a 64-megapixel Omnivision sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 and optical stabilization (OIS). On the back, you also get an ultra-wide camera (8 MP) and a macro camera (2 MP). A 20-megapixel front-facing camera is used for taking selfies. Anyone who has used a recent Xiaomi phone should know how to use the camera app. There are a lot of ways to take photos and videos. The main rear camera can record up to 4K at 60 frames per second, but the ultra-wide and selfie cameras can only record at 1080p at 30 frames per second.

When taken during the day, selfies had good skin tones, details, and exposure. Portrait mode was also pretty good, blurring out the right parts of the picture.

Videos shot in 4K at 60 frames per second looked good. There is no stabilization, but the autofocus was steady, details were good, and colors were bright. 4K videos at 30 frames per second could be stabilized, but walking, even slowly, made the video look a bit jerky.

Poco F4 5G price

The Poco F4 5G’s official retail price starts at Rs. 27,999 for the model with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space. You get 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage for Rs. 29,999. Lastly, you can get 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for Rs. 33,999. This is the configuration I’ve been testing. Keep in mind that you can get all of these options for a lot less money if you use coupons and shop online. Nebula Green and Night Black are the colors of the F4 5G.

Poco F4 5G Review and Verdict

The Poco F4 5G review shows the phone is a well-made smartphone that looks and feels like a high-end device. It plays games well, has a longer-than-average battery life, charges quickly, and has a beautiful screen that supports Dolby Vision HDR playback. The IP53 rating is another nice feature. This phone is a better deal than the Xiaomi Mi 11X (Review), which is almost the same but charges more slowly. The 12GB RAM version is worth getting if you can find it for less than Rs. 30,000, but for Rs. 33,999, the Nothing Phone 1 is a better choice according to Nothing Phone 1 Review.
