Tips to Keep Food Fresh in the Fridge
Our food changes depending on the season. In the summer, fruits and vegetables that have been kept for more than two days quickly go bad. During the monsoon, the humidity is high, and during the winter, it’s hard to keep the temperature stable. So, these are the problems we have all the time. But if you know how to put food in the fridge and freezer the right way, your work is done in an instant! Some of us might just throw the food into the fridge, but there are other ways to stack it. This keeps your food fresh for a longer period of time.
So, if you want to know how to put things in a fridge the right way, check out our tips to keep food fresh in the fridge:
1. Top Shelf
On the top shelf of the fridge, you should always keep things you will eat within a day or two. The best thing to do is to keep them in sight so you don’t forget about them. You can keep your leftovers, items that go bad quickly, yoghurt, and fruits and vegetables that have been cut up.
2. The Second Shelf
The idea here is to put things away that won’t go bad in a day. So, you can keep milk, cheese, jars of masalas, jams, and other foods here. You can easily remember where you put something and get to it whenever you need to.
3. Do Not Mix Vegetable And Meat Drawer Items
If your fridge has drawers for vegetables and meat, don’t mix them together. The drawers might sound like they do the same thing, but the temperatures are different. One is cold, and the other one is to get rid of the humidity. Also, if you mix them, their smells might mix, and you might end up having to throw them away.
4. Group Foods Together
Keep similar foods together in the fridge. You’ll be able to see exactly what you have when it’s time to make a grocery list. Also, you’ll know where to find a certain condiment. Things that tend to get lost on shelves can be put in your deep drawer bins.
5. Eliminate Dripping Foods
Foods that have a lot of water in them often leak. To stop leaks, the fruit and vegetable bins are lined with paper towels. This will make it easier to clean up any droplets. Meat and poultry, which are likely to drip, should go on the bottom shelf, where they will do the least damage to other foods.
6. Freezing Foods
We put things in the freezer that we need for a longer time. But other than that, you can always peel, wash, and put peas and other seasonal foods in containers and store them in the freezer. Then use it when you need to!
So, keep these helpful tips in mind the next time you clean out your fridge.
