Life on Mars will be, Restricted, Tough, and Hard Work: Elon Musk

According to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, living on Mars will not be easy.

“It’s critical to underline that Mars, especially in the beginning, will not be opulent,” Musk stated in a video interview with Chris Anderson, the head of TED conferences, which was released on Monday. “It’ll be a risky, cramped, demanding, and exhausting job.”

The billionaire compared Mars recruitment attempts to an ad from the 1900s for an Antarctic mission led by explorer Ernest Shackleton. The post has since been proven as a fiction, but it sought males ready to embark on a “dangerous voyage” with the assurance that their safe return was “doubtful.”

“‘It’s dangerous, it’s confined,’ says the sales pitch for going to Mars. You might not be able to return. It’s arduous and demanding labor.’ “Musk stated.

It would be significantly more difficult to live on Mars, a planet with an average temperature of -80 degrees Fahrenheit, than it would be to live in Antarctica, an area with an average temperature of -70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mars’ terrain is rough and studded with volcanoes and canyons. The planet also has one-third the gravity of Earth and a thinner atmosphere that is unbreathable to humans. An insider previously reported that a human without special equipment would perish on Mars within minutes due to the planet’s low atmospheric pressure.

Musk wishes to construct a full-scale city on Mars. In 2019, Musk estimated that it would take one million tons of cargo to build a self-sustaining city on the planet, a process that would cost anywhere between $100 billion and $10 trillion.

According to Anderson, the millionaire thinks that the people who will populate Mars will use the opportunity to “rethink society.”

“I think this is critical for optimizing humanity’s or consciousness’s potential life span,” Musk told Anderson. “Human civilization could perish due to external factors such as a large asteroid, mega volcanoes, dramatic climate change, World War III, or any one of a number of reasons.”

The world’s richest man informed Anderson that SpaceX would set a price for tickets on future rockets to Mars that would be reasonably priced for most people, citing a $100,000 hypothetical ticket price.

Musk’s business SpaceX intends to develop a self-sustaining city over the next several decades. However, the billionaire informed Anderson that he expects to be “long-dead” before his fantasy becomes a reality.

Musk stated in 2020 that he aimed to build 1,000 Starships in ten years and that he hoped to fly one million people to Mars by 2050. He has also stated that the first human landing on Mars could occur in 2029.

Depending on regulatory approval, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk expects the business to conduct its first orbital launch for the Starship “within a few months.”

“Success isn’t assured, but excitement is,” Musk says.
