Every 30-Year-Old Man Should have These 6 Things in Home Bar Set

wine in home bar set

Whether you’re having dinner, your own happy hour, or just a simple craving, having a home bar can help you step up your game and make the best cocktails so you don’t have to go out or pay for a change from the usual beer you won’t impress anyone.

In movies and TV shows like “Mad Men” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” where Brad Pitt makes a good “Bloody Mary”, the main characters always seem to be cocktail experts. They don’t have a professional-style bar at home, but they always have the tools and ingredients they need to make something good, impress their guests, and be great hosts.

They take a glass, put some things in it, mix everything together, and the result seems to please everyone. This is the magic of movies and TV, but if you don’t know what to do and don’t have a guide, you won’t get the same result.

You can’t learn how to make a home bar or improve your bartending skills in college. Most expert bartenders learn by doing, making changes and adding or removing things from their repertoire when they learn something new. They are the ones who can teach you all the secrets.

You don’t need many things to make a great bar at home, which is a plus and not just for parties, sometimes you want a good drink.

This is what you should do:

Different types of alcohol

First, you need alcohol, which is the main ingredient in a good cocktail. You don’t have to buy expensive bottles or have a bigger selection than the grocery store, but you do need to have some options and a little variety. You never know what your guests will want, and not everyone likes the same thing.

You can save yourself with whiskey, gin, tequila, rum, or even dry white wine.

Basic tool kit

To make cocktails, you’ll need a few things. You should have a mixing glass, a bar spoon, a shaker, a strainer, and tongs so you don’t have to touch everything with your hands. The tools should be of good quality so they last longer.

You can buy kits that have everything you need in stores or online.

Mixers and other ingredients

Mixers are also the basis of many cocktails and help you make new flavors and drinks, like a Martini, a Negroni, or a margarita.

Mineral water or sodas, sprits, or even bitters (if you like bitters) are good carbonated mixers to have on hand. You should also have some fruit, like lemons, cucumbers, and other things that could be used to decorate the drinks. Citrus goes well with alcohol.

Glasses and cups

There are a lot of glasses, but since this is a home bar, you really only need a few basics, like scotch glasses for whiskey drinks, basic wine glasses (which you can also use for your Gin and Tonic), some shot glasses, and regular glasses for everything else.

An ice bucket

Since most cocktails are served cold, you need to make sure there is enough ice in the freezer before your party. But to be better prepared, you should add a (nice) gutter where you can put enough food so you don’t have to take trays out of the freezer in the middle of the party.

As a tip, buy ice trays with lids. This will keep them from taking on the smells or tastes of other things in your freezer.

A non-alcoholic option

Lastly, not everyone drinks alcohol, so you should also think about having options that don’t need it. Look for recipes that can be made with or without alcohol so that you don’t have to serve water or soda to your guests who don’t drink.
