How to Avoid Constipation while Travelling?

With travel restrictions relaxing and schools closing for the summer, it’s time to start planning that much-needed family vacation. When seeing new areas and sight-seeing is enjoyable, bloating or constipation while traveling may ruin the experience and be exceedingly inconvenient. Traveling might affect your digestive system for a variety of reasons. Longer periods of sitting, changes in your typical routine, meal timing, not drinking enough water, and changes in the sorts of food you eat can all contribute to digestive issues.

If you’re experiencing bloating, constipation, or other digestive issues while traveling, keep these helpful hints in mind. You can deal with these concerns by sipping water from time to time, eating light, and practicing some breathing exercises.

In a recent Instagram post, Ayurveda specialist Dr Dixa Bhavsar states, “I often see individuals complain of constipation during travel owing to lack of enough activity, change in food-water-sleep timings and environment.”

Dr. Bhavsar also offers advice on how to avoid constipation and bloating when traveling.

1. Drink plenty of water

You don’t need to drink a lot of water; just enough is plenty. If you’re traveling in a cold climate, drink at least 5 glasses of water, and 7-8 glasses if you’re traveling in a hot one.

2. Keep moving

Every morning, for at least 30 minutes, practice Sukshma vyayama, or Yoga and pranayamas. 5000 steps per day is a good goal to aim for.

3. Drink a glass of warm water or a cup of green tea

Drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning or before bedtime will help you move bowels more readily on a daily basis. Instead of bread or anything deep fried, start your day with green tea.

4. Make healthier dietary choices

Have laxative fruits such as bananas, papayas, and indigenous fruits on hand. Breakfast should be light. Make sure you don’t start your day with maida (white flour). Lunch should be moderate or hefty (roti/parantha, curry, salad). If buttermilk is available, have it with your meal. Dinner should be light and early. Dinners should consist of rice-based dishes or various soups.

5. Take digestive pills with you

The best ayurvedic digestives include Pudina Vati, Amla Candy, Hajmola, and Hing Vati. Suck on it if you’re feeling bloated or heavy.

6. Carry ghee

In the morning or at night, mix 1 tsp ghee with warm water. It performs admirably.

7. Herbs used in Ayurveda

If you still feel constipated or bloated after doing everything above, carry triphala churna or tablet for mild constipation and haritaki/harde tab or churna for severe constipation.

So, you should follow the tips here from experts and maintain those while travelling on how to avoid constipation and bloating during your travelling.
