Lionel Messi Birthday: Let’s Look Back at His Top Records

Even if he wasn’t the best, the Argentina captain and Barcelona legend is definitely one of the best soccer players ever. Messi, a star player for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), turns 35 today. He can dribble, pass, and score a lot of goals.

Messi broke up with FC Barcelona after 21 years. That was more than a year ago. The player who was the heart and soul of Camp Nou left Barcelona for Ligue 1 powerhouses PSG, which is seen as one of the most shocking transfers in football history. Even though Messi is enjoying the end of his legendary career at PSG, Barca fans will always have a special place in their hearts for the Argentine.

Lionel Messi turns 35

Messi turns 35 today, June 24, 2022. Now he is 35 years old. Even though he is getting older, Messi is still the best player on both PSG and the Argentina national team.

During the 2021-22 season, he scored 11 goals and had 14 assists for Paris. He also helped Argentina qualify for the World Cup, had two assists in the Finalissima’s win over Italy, and scored all five goals in a recent friendly win over Estonia.

Lionel Messi’s career at Barcelona, Argentina and PSG

Lionel Messi started his career at the Newell’s Old Boys academy. When he was 13, he moved to Barcelona’s famous La Masia. In November 2003, Messi played his first game for Barcelona’s main team in a friendly against Jose Mourinho’s Porto team. He was 16 years, 4 months, and 23 days old at the time.

When he came in as a substitute in the 82nd minute of a La Liga game against Espanyol in October 2004, he was 17 years, 3 months, and 22 days old. At the time, he was the youngest player to ever play for Barcelona in an official match.

At the end of the 2021 season, Messi moved to PSG for free. In his first year with the club, he won the Ligue 1 title with the Paris giants. Messi has scored 86 goals in 162 games for Argentina. He won the Copa America in 2021 and was the runner-up at the World Cup in 2014. Most recently, he won the Finalissima trophy after Argentina beat Italy. He won it in 2021 and again in 2019. The 2021 ceremony was canceled because of COVID-19, but he also won it in 2019.

Messi’s unique quadruple

The former star of FC Barcelona is the only player in club football history to win the Golden Boot, the Pichichi Trophy, the FIFA World Player Award, and the Ballon d’Or in the same season. During the 2009-10 season, Messi did the amazing thing. Messi had also scored the most goals in the UEFA Champions League that same season. Between 2008/09 and 2011/12, the star player for Barcelona won the UCL top scorer award four years in a row. The former captain of Barcelona is also the youngest person to win three Ballons d’Or.

Goal machine for a reason

The Golden Shoe is a very prestigious award, and the Argentina captain has won it six times in his long career. Messi has won more Golden Shoes than any other player in the history of club football. Messi won his record-setting sixth Golden Shoe at Barcelona. The 35-year-old player has won the Golden Shoe before, in 2009-10, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2016-17, 2017-18, and 2018-19. Have you heard? When he scored 50 goals in La Liga in 2011-12 for PSG, he set an all-time season record.

All-time top scorer in a calendar year

Messi is the player who has scored the most goals in a calendar year. This is a world record that is almost impossible to beat. When he scored 91 goals in 2012, the former captain of Barcelona wrote his name into history. Messi scored 84 goals in 59 games for Barcelona. The Champions League was where Messi scored 13 goals. The Blaugrana’s “goal machine” scored five goals in the Copa del Rey and two in the Super Cup. Messi scored 12 goals in 2012 for Argentina, which had won the World Cup in 2010. The Argentine forward also scored five goals in friendlies, bringing his total number of goals to 96.

Most decorated player in history of La Liga

Before he left Barcelona for PSG, Messi had made a name for himself in La Liga. The former captain of Barcelona has won more national and international titles than any other player in Spain’s top league. Messi won ten leagues, eight Spanish Super Cups, seven Copas del Rey, four Champions Leagues, three Club World Cups, and three European Super Cups between 2002 and 2020. Messi also won six Ballon d’Or awards while playing for Barcelona. Messi has also won the most Pichichi Trophies in Spain’s top league (2009/10, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20, and 2020/21).

The Clasico GOAT

Messi left Barca after he became the player in the Spanish league with the most wins. Messi led Barcelona to 383 wins at home thanks to his leadership. Messi was the face of El Clasico games even when Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t there. Messi led Barca’s attack against Real Madrid in 45 games (29 in La Liga, 8 in Copa del Rey, 2 in UEFA Champions League and 6 in Spanish Super Cup). Messi has not only played the most El Clásico games, but he also has the most El Clásico goals (26).

All-time leading goal scorer for the same club

Messi has played in the most games for Argentina, and he has also played in a record 520 La Liga games for Barcelona. Messi was the youngest player to score 100 and 200 goals at Camp Nou. He was also the youngest player to score 672 goals for the Catalan giants. Messi is the player who has scored the most goals for a single team. Earlier, the seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or had scored more goals than the legendary Pele, who played for Santos from 1956 to 1974 and scored 643 goals.
