Google Removed Over 1.11 Lakh Harmful Content in June
According to the new India IT Rules, 2021, Google took down 1.11 Lakh harmful pieces of content in June of this year.
Google’s Monthly Transparency Report says that most of the content that was taken down was because it violated someone’s copyright. The rest of the content was taken down for reasons like trademarks, court orders, explicit sexual content, fraud, and other things.
During the same time period, the internet company got 32,717 complaints from people in the country about external content on different Google platforms that they thought broke their personal or regional legal rights. There are many ways to group the complaints.
Google says that some requests might say that intellectual property rights had been violated, while others might say that local laws that limit the publication of certain kinds of content because of things like defamation had been broken.
In its monthly compliance report, the company said, “In addition to what our users tell us, we spend a lot of money fighting dangerous information online and using technology to find it and get rid of it from our platform.”
When the company added its automatic identification procedures, 528,846 accounts were closed across the country. We spend a lot of money to fight harmful content on the internet, and we use technology to find it and get rid of it from our platform.
Google said that some of our products will use automatic identification processes to stop the spread of harmful information like material about child sex abuse and violent extremist content.
This report talks about the complaints Google got and what they did about them during the one-month reporting period. The actions were taken because Google’s SSMI platforms have automated ways to find problems. The time frame includes data from June 1 to June 30. In the next few months, Google might put out more monthly transparency reports.
