IPL 2022 Champion: Gujarat Titans Win their Mainden Trophy

Debutants Gujarat Titans were declared IPL 2022 champion on Sunday in Ahmedabad, defeating Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets. Rajasthan, who chose to bat first, never got going and finished with a score of 130-9, with Jos Buttler, the IPL’s leading scorer, topscoring for them with a subdued 39. With the ball, Gujarat captain Hardik Pandya (3-17) set an example.

Pandya was also impressive with the bat, scoring 34 runs and forming a 63-run partnership with Shubman Gill to help Gujarat recover from a sluggish start in their chase. Gujarat’s triumph was sealed with a six and 11 balls to spare as opener Gill remained undefeated on 45.

On Twitter, celebratory messages poured in as soon as Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 champion.

Despite the fact that the Royals lost the final, two of their players were awarded the Orange and Purple Caps. Jos Buttler, one of them, went on to win the player of the season award, passing David Warner for the second most runs scored by any player in a season.

“Exceeded all my expectations apart from today – the trophy we really wanted. Disappointed with that. Big congratulations to Hardik and team. Deserving champions. My goals are to play my role for the team and try and react on the day regarding what the game is asking me to do. In good teams you have a lot of trust in everyone,” said Buttler after recieving his Player of the Tournament award.

“We have huge trust in everyone in our team. Very grateful for the opportunity to play today,” he added.
