Twitter Reopens Account Verification

According to TechCrunch, users who want to be verified should constantly check their account settings screen for access to the in-app application.

Twitter had run into a few issues since implementing the revised verification program, forcing it to shut down verifications on multiple occasions.

The most recent of these delays were announced on August 13, when the business stated that both the application and review processes needed to be improved.

According to the article, the microblogging service has battled with account verification for years.

Everyone wants the coveted blue badge, which was formerly given to public personalities and other accounts of great public interest who have confirmed they are who they say they are — such as a government official, journalist, celebrities, brands or businesses, or another well-known name.

While the system was designed to communicate solely account legitimacy, many people saw holders of Twitter verification badges as having a higher standing.

When it was discovered in 2017 that Jason Keller, the person who organized the deadly white supremacist event in Charlottesville, Virginia, had a verified Twitter account, the problem came to a head.

Twitter officially halted verifications shortly after but continues to covertly verify some persons, including candidates for public office, elected officials, journalists, and others.

Finally, in May 2021, the firm rebooted the system, claiming it had been rebuilt and would now be supported by a dedicated crew.

According to the newspaper, it also released new guidelines that more clearly stated who could and could not request verification.

The demand for verification was so high that it had to be briefly paused only eight days after its launch to allow the team to catch up with the volume of requests, according to Twitter.

In August, after it had been restarted, Twitter placed the system on hold again, stating that it needed more time to get things right.
