The Matrix Resurrections New Trailer Revives the Past
A new trailer for The Matrix Resurrections has been out, and it looks really amazing, despite the fact that it leaves us with more questions than answers.
Warner Bros. released a brand new look at its final film release of 2021 in honor of ‘Matrix Monday,’ the day that theater tickers officially go on sale – through the fourth film in the franchise will also come to HBO Max – Warner Bros. released a brand new look at its final film release of 2021 in honor of ‘Matrix Monday,’ the day that theater tickers officially go on sale – although the fourth film in the franchise will also come to HBO Max.
To put it bluntly, The Matrix Resurrections appears to be the nostalgic, ground-breaking picture that its cast and crew, as well as diehard fans, had hoped for. Mr. Anderson and company, consider us intrigued.
So, what does the most recent trailer for the film show? We get a closer glimpse at the gravity-defying, superhero-style action that the film series is known for, as well as a lot of rapid cuts between different sequences and a little more information about the sci-fi film’s plot.
When we say ‘a little bit,’ we really mean ‘a little bit.’ There’s a lot of speculation — for example, Jonathan Groff’s character appears to be a reincarnated version of Agent Smith, who was played by Hugo Weaving in the original trilogy.
There are also various shots that highlight The Matrix Resurrections’ meta nature, with numerous references to the preceding three films. Shots like Trinity abandoning Neo at a coffee shop, Groff’s character giving a carbon copy of Agent Smith’s earlier speech, and Neo deciding whether to take the red or blue pill reveal how The Matrix Resurrections will revisit its history.
But there’s a lot here that appears to be brand fresh. More of the film’s new cast members, such as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s Morpheus and Priyanka Chopra’s Sati, is seen in action, as well as a new aesthetic for the Matrix universe (which we saw in the first teaser), and possibly new powers for Neo and Trinity.
“Perhaps this isn’t the story that we believe it is,” Jessica Henwick’s Bugs suggests. Let’s hope she’s correct, and that The Matrix Resurrections’ trailers are really a ruse, and that the film’s genuine discoveries will be revealed when it hits theaters very soon.
The Matrix Resurrections, directed by Lana Wachowski and starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, Jessica Henwick, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Neil Patrick Harris, will hit theaters and HBO Max on December 22.
