The returning cast at The Matrix 4
Several additional Matrix series actors, including Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, are believed to be reprising their roles for The Matrix Resurrections.
The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions star Jada Pinkett Smith is allegedly in talks to reprise her role as Niobe in The Matrix Resurrections. Pinkett Smith’s role as a fellow freedom fighter and the captain of the hovercraft Logos in humanity’s war against the robots.
Lambert Wilson, who played The Merovingian in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, is also said to be returning for The Matrix Resurrections. The Merovingian was a strong program that acted as a sort of crime lord within The Matrix, protecting exiled programs and trading secrets. Finally, in The Matrix Reloaded, actor/stuntman Daniel Bernhardt will reprise his role as Agent Johnson, the improved agents’ leader.
Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving, who played Morpheus and the malevolent A.I. Agent Smith in The Matrix and its sequels, respectively, will be glaringly absent from The Matrix Resurrections. Weaving has announced that he will not be appearing in The Matrix Resurrections in January 2020, stating that “they’re pushing on without me.” In an August 2020 interview with New York Magazine, Fishburne revealed that he, too, would not be returning. “I haven’t received an invitation.” Perhaps that will inspire me to write another play. I wish them the best of luck. I’m hoping it’ll be fantastic.”
The Matrix 4 posters
Multiple posters for The Matrix Resurrections have been released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity are depicted on one international poster, while their silhouettes are depicted on another.
A different poster features more cast members, including Morpheus’ Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Bugs’ Jessica Henwick, and Sense8’s Eréndira Ibarra in an unknown role.
Take a look at the two posters above.
However, we’ve now been given some new character posters, which include the top actors as well as Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, and Jonathan Groff.
These can be found in the tweets above.
We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out who these new characters are playing in The Matrix Resurrections because most of the new characters are cloaked in mystery.
The Matrix 4 story is still a massive mystery
Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity sacrificed themselves at the end of the first Matrix trilogy to preserve humanity from the world’s machines. Both Neo and Trinity are slated to appear in The Matrix 4, however, it’s unclear how they survived (while Morpheus did not).
But, since this is The Matrix, it’s most likely due to some kind of machine trickery, an as-yet-unexplained god-like power from Neo, or something else.
While it’s debatable if The Matrix 4 picture was necessary, the cast appears to be confident that The Matrix Resurrections will heal the harm created by the critically panned The Matrix Revolutions.
Keanu Reeves described the film’s script as “wonderful” and indicated that it was more of a love story in an interview with Empire Magazine.
“Lana Wachowski crafted a lovely script and a brilliant story that spoke to me… That is the only reason to go through with it. It’s a dream come true to work with her again. It’s been extremely great, and I think the story has some meaningful things to say that we can all learn from.”
Members of the cast have already expressed their delight at seeing Keanu Reeves reprise his role as Neo, with filming described as an “exhilarating” experience.
Reeves has been seen filming with long, John Wick-style hair and a buzzcut similar to the one he wore in the first Matrix film, implying that The Matrix Resurrections will keep the dual storyline of the first films, with action taking place both inside The Matrix and in the real world. We’re in for a wild trip, regardless of the outcome.
The Matrix 4 release date
The Matrix 4 or The Matrix Resurrections was originally set to be released in the UK and United States on May 21, 2021. However, due to filming difficulties, it was moved back to April 1, 2022.
However, as previously stated, Warner Bros. has now pushed the release date of The Matrix Resurrections up to December 22, 2021, putting it in direct competition with The King’s Man.
In an unusual move, Warner Bros. is simultaneously releasing all of its 2021 films on HBO Max and in theaters in the United States, which means HBO Max subscribers in the United States will be able to see Neo’s return on December 22, 2021.
It will be available on HBO Max for a month following its theatrical premiere. The film’s worldwide distribution is unaffected because HBO Max is currently only available in the U.S.
After considerable delays owing to the ongoing global situation, filming on the movie finished in November 2020. Originally, The Matrix 4 was set to release on the same day as Reeves’ John Wick 4, but the two films have been separated, with John Wick 4 set to premiere on May 21, 2022. But fans are still holding firm that Neo and Wick are somehow connected.
The Matrix 4 Official Trailer
The long-awaited trailer for The Matrix Resurrections was released on Thursday, September 9, 2021.
After an ingenious viral marketing campaign, the premiere of the first trailer was announced, harkening back to the hazy and cryptic teasers for the first film of The Matrix.
The website — whatisthematrix.com — notably used to promote the original Matrix movie in 1999, has been resurrected by Warner Bros., and visitors may relive Neo’s iconic choice by selecting either the red or blue pill.
The blue pill, which represents sticking to existing reality in the film, can be activated by clicking on it. A voiceover from Neil Patrick Harris will play, asking you to believe that what you know is true while small excerpts from the film are presented.
Choosing the red pill, on the other hand, triggers a speech from Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who asks you to rethink your reality as more film footage plays.
The narrator spells out the correct current time, which also displays on-screen, regardless of which pill you select, and the film footage changes slightly each time you click on a pill — with hundreds of different combinations recorded.
The Matrix 4 plot
The first film of The Matrix, which was produced around the Y2K crisis, capitalized on people’s anxieties about the future by thematizing the relationship between technology and the “real world.” Although our world did not end (for better or worse) in the year 2000, people’s worries and curiosity about technology have only grown, with notions that we are all living in a simulation becoming increasingly prevalent in recent years.
The plot of The Matrix films — humans being used as a source of energy for sentient machines and existing in a simulated world called The Matrix — undoubtedly encouraged such philosophizing, and the plot possibilities for The Matrix 4 film are ripe for even wilder ideas based on how the world has changed in the last two decades.
The robots were at war with the humans of Zion when we last left The Matrix in 2003 with The Matrix Revolutions, and it was up to Neo to make a bargain to rescue all of existence. This resulted in a showdown between Neo and Agent Smith, the latter of whom posed a bigger threat than the machines. Neo made the ultimate sacrifice to eliminate Smith and reboot The Matrix, bringing brief peace to Zion.
Unfortunately, little is known about The Matrix 4 movie’s plot right now other than it is “set in the world of The Matrix”. Neo is now going by his real name, Thomas Anderson, according to the CinemaCon footage. He is shown discussing his dreams with a therapist, which are actually memories of his time as Neo. A new Morpheus offers Thomas a red pill after he meets Trinity (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). The Matrix 4 appears to be about Neo’s resurrection and a reboot of his journey as The One.
