Sourav Ganguly is Not Resigning as BCCI President
Sourav Ganguly’s statement sparked much speculation on social media, with many speculating that the former India captain has decided to retire as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after nearly three years in the position. Ganguly, one of India’s most famous cricket captains, was elected president of the BCCI in October 2019, and he and Jay Shah, who served as secretary, presided over three editions of the Indian Premier League during the Covid-19 era.
Sourav Ganguly’s post went viral, prompting speculation that Saurav Ganguly resigns as BCCI chairman and pursue politics. However, that message could have been a social media hoax, or he could join politics at some point – neither of these things are known at this time, but one thing is certain: Sourav Ganguly will not retire as BCCI president.
Sourav Ganguly’s post sparked enough discussion and interest in the media and on social media that BCCI secretary Jay Shah clarified that the former will not resign.
“Sourav Ganguly has not resigned as president of the BCCI,” Jay Shah informed ANI.
Meanwhile, Ganguly has stated that he would not be resigning from his position. “I have not resigned: I am launching a new education app worldwide. There is no resignation, nothing,” Sourav said.
In response to reports that the former India captain would resign as chairman of the cricket board, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah told ANI: “The rumors that Mr. Sourav Ganguly would resign as BCCI President are false. We’re approaching some interesting times in terms of media rights, and my colleagues and I are absolutely focused on seizing the opportunity and protecting Indian cricket’s interests.”
The mysterious remark by Ganguly sparked widespread speculation that Mr Ganguly, 49, will enter politics. Since 2019, he has served as the head of India’s Board of Control for Cricket.

“The year 2022 will mark the 30th anniversary of the commencement of my cricket career, which began in 1992. Cricket has given me a lot since then. Most significantly, it has provided me with the support of each and every one of you. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone who has been a part of my path, supported me, and assisted me in getting to where I am now,” The cricket legend wrote.
Sourav Ganguly hosted Union House Minister Amit Shah at his Bengal home last month. At the event, BJP officials Swapan Dasgupta and Amit Malviya were also there, fueling rumors that “Dada” would finally take the jump.
Sourav Ganguly bragged about his good ties with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and lauded other Trinamool officials during a dinner meeting when leaders of Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress telegraphed their displeasure. “Mamata Banerjee, our honorable Chief Minister, is a good friend of mine. I had asked her about assisting with the establishment of this institute “He told reporters about it.
He also shot down rumors that he was considering joining the BJP. “There’s a lot of speculation… but I’ve known him (Amit Shah) since 2008. I used to run across him while playing. There’s nothing else to say “he stated
At a time when Covid-19 was making sporting activities tough, Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah were involved in executing plans for the IPL. Because of the pandemic in 2020, the IPL was postponed, although it was held in the UAE from September 19 to November 10. The IPL had to be discontinued after the first half of the year in 2021, but it was resumed later that year in the UAE. In 2022, the IPL returned to India, and the final was played in front of a sold-out crowd in Ahmedabad, which included a closing ceremony.
Sourav Ganguly may be one of India’s best captains, but his time as BCCI president has not been without controversy. Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s T20I captain last year and was thereafter ousted as the ODI captain.
Virat Kohli addressed the media before embarking for the South Africa trip, contradicting Ganguly’s assertions that he wanted him stay on as T20I captain. Ganguly had stated in interviews following Kohli’s decision to step down as India’s T20I captain that he wanted Kohli to continue.
Sourav Ganguly wanted to issue a show cause notice to Virat Kohli for his comments to the public and demanded an explanation, it was later revealed. However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah stepped in and persuaded Ganguly not to issue the show-cause notice.
