Operation Unicorn said that, if Queen Elizabeth II died in Scotland, her body should be taken to the Palace of Holyrood in Edinburgh. This is what happened. At that time, the Scottish parliament will stop doing anything else because it will be in charge of planning a state funeral, which will be the first of the oldest royal funerals up to that point.
After that first break, a procession will move along Edinburgh’s Royal Mile to St. Giles’ Cathedral, which is also in Edinburgh. The royal family is expected to attend, and then the town’s residents will have 24 hours to say goodbye to the monarch. People from all over the world are expected to come to the town to pay their last respects.
Under Operation Unicorn, the coffin of Queen Elizabeth II could be taken by train from Waverley station to Buckingham Palace on the second day after her death.
When will the funeral be?
Once Queen Elizabeth II’s body is in Buckingham Palace, Operation London Bridge will start. This plan, which has been talked about for a while, includes ten days of mourning, a military parade, the crowning of Charles as King, and a tour of the United Kingdom during which the new monarch will pay tribute to his mother in Edinburgh, Belfast, and Cardiff.
People think that Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in Westminster Abbey will be the end of both Operation Unicorn and London Bridge after eleven or twelve days.
