“It is apparent that World War three can only be nuclear,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Russian and foreign media four days after Vladimir Putin placed his country’s nuclear deterrent forces on “special” alert and a week after Moscow launched a horrific war against Ukraine.
“I’d like to point out that the thought of a nuclear war is continually spinning in the heads of Western politicians, but not in the heads of Russians,” Lavrov asserted.
“I tell you that we will not be thrown off balance by any provocations,” he added.
Moscow possesses the world’s greatest nuclear arsenal as well as a sizable stockpile of ballistic missiles, which serve as the backbone of its deterrence capabilities.
He also stated that Russia could not tolerate what he saw as a military threat from Ukraine, adding that he was confident that Russia was correct in its assessment of Ukraine.
Denying reports that Moscow is feeling politically isolated, Lavrov stated that the people of Ukraine should define how they live.
In the war, which is now in its eighth day, the Ukrainian government has accused Russian soldiers of targeting civilians. According to Russia’s foreign minister, the forces have been given specific orders to destroy military installations using high-precision missiles.
