Dubai First in the World to Go 100% Paperless: Crown Prince

Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, stated that the Emirate had become the world’s first government to go paperless, citing savings of 1.3 billion Dirham (USD 350 million) and 14 million man hours.

The Dubai government’s internal and external transactions and procedures are now entirely digital and administered by a centralized digital government services platform. “The attainment of this goal represents the start of a new stage in Dubai’s journey to digitize life in all of its forms – a journey rooted on innovation, creativity, and a focus on the future,” Sheikh Hamdan said in a statement on Saturday.

“This achievement also cements Dubai’s position as the world’s premier digital capital and a role model for government operations and services that improve consumer delight,” he added. The United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Canada have all stated that they intend to digitize government operations on a bigger scale, including government procedures and citizen identity. Skeptics, on the other hand, have argued that it is vulnerable to cyber-attacks.

Over the next five decades, the government of Dubai, according to the Crown Prince, wants to employ sophisticated tactics to establish and enhance digital life in Dubai. “The next chapter of Dubai’s digital journey will enable and empower future governments to meet the expectations of thriving smart city citizens and give them with renewed prospects for prosperity, sustainable development, and happiness,” he said.

The Dubai Paperless Strategy was conducted in five phases, each involving a distinct group of Dubai government entities. The strategy had been fully implemented throughout all 45 government entities in the emirate by the end of the fifth phase. More than 1,800 digital services and over 10,500 important transactions are provided by these organizations.

According to the statement, collaboration and integration among participating businesses enabled the automation of processes and services offered to customers, resulting in a reduction in paper usage of more than 336 million sheets. The method also saved the Dubai government more than 1.3 billion dirhams (USD 350 million) and over 14 million man hours.

The Dubai Government’s comprehensive digital transformation will improve residents’ smart city experiences by completely eliminating the need for paper transactions and documents, whether they are handed out to customers or exchanged between staff across government agencies.

The DubaiNow application, which provides access to more than 130 smart city services in 12 primary categories, will also assist deliver outstanding experiences for residents, according to the statement.
