Ranbir-Alia Wedding: Why They Tied the Knot at Home
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor married on Thursday afternoon at his Bandra residence, Vastu, after years of speculation and weeks of confusion about the date and location. The couple married in a small ceremony attended by only 30-35 guests, all of whom were close friends and family.
Alia took to Instagram on Thursday evening, sharing a carousel of photos of the newlyweds. The photographs depict the couple in a variety of poses, ranging from candids during Ranbir-Alia wedding ceremonies to one-on-one portraits.
“Today, surrounded by our family and friends, at home … in our favorite spot – the balcony we’ve spent the last 5 years of our relationship – we got married. With so much already behind us, we can’t wait to build more memories together … memories that are full of love, laughter, comfortable silences, movie nights, silly fights, wine delights and Chinese bites. Thank you for all the love and light during this very momentous time in our lives. It has made this moment all the more special,” she wrote. At the end of the message, Alia said, “Love, Ranbir and Alia”.
On Wednesday, the wedding festivities began with a pooja at the venue. This was followed by a mehendi ceremony attended by the bride and groom’s close friends and family. Neetu Kapoor, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Karisma Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Randhir Kapoor, Reema Jain, Armaan Jain, Aadar Jain, Shweta Bachchan Nanda, and Navya Naveli Nanda were among the Kapoor guests. On the Bhatt side, Mahesh Bhatt, Soni Razdan, Shaheen Bhatt, and others were present. Friends of the bride and groom from the industry were also present, including Karan Johar, Ayan Mukerji, and Akansha Ranjan.

The wedding was also held at Vastu, and guests included the late Shammi Kapoor’s wife Neila Devi Kapoor. The wedding festivities allegedly included a performance by singer Prateek Kuhad. The Kapoor family, including Neetu, Karisma, and Kareena, on the other hand, surprised the bride and groom with a choreographed dance performance at the sangeet.
While Alia’s uncle Robin Bhatt and half-brother Rahul Bhatt initially confirmed that the wedding would take place on April 14, they later stated that it had been postponed. The Kapoors remained tight-lipped about it until the day before the wedding. After avoiding questions about the wedding for several days, Neetu confirmed on Wednesday evening that Ranbir and Alia will marry on April 14 at Ranbir’s Bandra home Vastu. She also lavished praise on her future daughter-in-law, saying, “She is unrivaled. Really, God bless them.”
Ranbir and Alia began dating in 2017 while working on Ayan Mukerji’s film Brahmastra, which is set to be released in September of this year. During an interview with GQ in May 2018, Ranbir revealed that he was dating Alia. He later stated that they had planned to marry in 2020, but that the wedding had been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
