Neymar Returns as Brazil Thumps Chile in World Cup Qualifiers
Neymar made his return to the Brazil team with a 4-0 victory over Chile at the Maracana stadium on Thursday, thanks to two penalties from Neymar and Philippe Coutinho.
Vinicius Junior scored his first international goal, while Richarlison added the final touch in stoppage time.
Chile must now defeat Uruguay at home on Tuesday and hope that Peru and Colombia lose at home to Paraguay and away to Venezuela, respectively.
On Friday, Argentina will face Venezuela in Buenos Aires.
Brazil won for the sixth time in seven home qualifiers against Chile, who must now beat Uruguay in their final encounter on Tuesday to have any chance of making the World Cup playoffs. It extends Brazil’s unblemished qualification run under Tite, who has already secured a place in Qatar.
The victory over Chile was their 13th of the qualifying campaign, with the next three games being drawn – with a final game against Bolivia coming up next week.
