The World’s 10 Most Powerful Women 2021

Women are shining in a variety of fields all across the world, not only in India. They’re defying patriarchal ideologies and raiding what were formerly considered male strongholds. In 2021, MacKenzie Scott is ranked first in Forbes’ 18th annual ranking of the world’s most influential women.

The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, the ultimate audit of the foremost CEOs and legendary entrepreneurs, heads of state, pioneer philanthropists, and policymakers who are solving society’s most intractable challenges, was released on December 7 by Forbes.

For the third year in a row, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been named to Forbes’ annual list of the world’s most powerful women. Sitharaman, who is currently ranked 37th, was ranked 41st in 2020 and 34th in 2019. India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is the country’s first full-time female minister.In addition to Nirmala Sitharaman, HCL Corporation CEO Roshni Nadar Malhotra is ranked 52, Biocon Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is placed 72, and Nykaa creator Falguni Nayar is ranked 88th on the Forbes list.

1. MacKenzie Scott

MacKenzie Scott, an American novelist and philanthropist, has replaced former German chancellor Angela Merkel at the top of this year’s World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list, which she had topped for 15 of the previous 17 versions. According to Forbes, MacKenzie Scott is the most powerful woman on the planet right now. MacKenzie Scott has given up a significant portion of her fortune. She has donated $8.6 billion of her riches to charity, including $2.7 billion only this year.

2. Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris, the 49th and current Vice President of the United States, is an American politician and attorney. Harris is the first African American and Asian American vice president, as well as the highest-ranking female official in US history.

3. Christine Lagarde

Christine Lagarde is the International Monetary Fund’s (IM Mary Barra is ranked third on Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World for 2021. Lagarde is the current President of the European Central Bank, a position she has held since November 1, 2019. She is a French politician and lawyer. Prior to her post, she served as the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund from July 2011 until September 2019.

4. Mary Barra

General Motors’ Chair and Chief Executive Officer is Mary Barra.  On January 4, 2016, she was elected Chair of the GM Board of Directors, and she has been the company’s CEO since January 15, 2014. Mary Barra is ranked fourth on Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World for 2021.

5. Melinda French Gates

According to the most recent Forbes survey, Melinda French Gates is the world’s fifth most influential woman. In addition, as co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Melinda French Gates is one of the most powerful women in charity. According to papers, Bill Gates and Melinda Gates declared their divorce in early May 2021, and Melinda Gates became a millionaire on her own after Bill Gates transferred $2.4 billion worth of stock to her.

6. Abigail Johnson

Since 2014, Abigail Pierrepont Johnson, an American billionaire entrepreneur, has served as president and chief executive officer of the American financial corporation Fidelity Investments. Abigail Johnson owns about 24.5 percent of the company, which manages $4.2 trillion in assets.

7. Ana Patricia Botin

Since 2014, Ana Patricia Botin, Spanish banker, has served as the executive chairperson of the Santander Group. She is the Botin family’s fourth generation to hold this position. Ana Patricia was ranked seventh on Forbes’ list of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.

8. Ursula von der Leyen

Since December 1, 2019, Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen, German politician and physician, has served as President of the European Commission. She was part of Angela Merkel’s cabinet from 2005 to 2019, the longest term of any cabinet member. Ursula was Germany’s defense minister for the last six years of Merkel’s administration.

9. Tsai Ing-wen

Since 2016, Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwanese politician and professor, has served as President of the Republic of China. Tsai is Taiwan’s first female president and member of the Democratic Progressive Party. Since 2020, she has served as Chair of the DPP, having previously served from 2008 to 2012 and 2014 to 2018.
 
Taiwan created robust track and trace procedure to avert mass contagion in 2020, thanks to Tsai’s leadership throughout Covid period. Tsai has committed to make Taiwan an integral member of the global community by boosting the economy via biotech, defense, and green energy initiatives.

10. Julie Sweet

Julie Sweet is a businesswoman from the United States. Accenture’s chief executive officer, Julie Sweet, is a multinational professional services firm. She is also a member of Accenture’s Global Management Committee. She is “one of the most influential women in corporate America,” according to The New York Times, and she is among the top ten most powerful women in the world, according to Forbes’ 2021 list.
