Holy Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday, commemorates the burial of Jesus Christ in a tomb. It’s the last day of Lent, a 40-day season of preparation and fasting leading up to Easter. Holy Saturday is a day when the faithful physically and spiritually prepare themselves for the celebration of Christ’s resurrection. It happens on the 16th of April this year, a day after Good Friday.

Holy Saturday, commonly known as Easter Vigil, is associated with a variety of ceremonies. In Mexico, the day is known as Judas Day, and many burn effigies of Judas Iscariot, the betrayer of Jesus. This day is known as White Saturday in Czech tradition. On the same day, an hour after sundown, a vigil service commemorates the time before the resurrection.

The celebrations also feature the lighting of fires and candles to symbolize Christ’s resurrection from the dead. It also features a bell-tolling ceremony to mark the conclusion of Lent.

The day is spent in many other regions of the world completing Easter preparations, such as coloring eggs and decorating for the holiday.

It is stated that Jesus Christ’s body was carried down from the crucifixion and put in a freshly made tomb after his death. Christ would be raised on the third day, according to the ancient texts. On the third day after someone died, it was customary to anoint the body with specific oils and spices. When Mary Magdalene, Salome, and Mary entered the cave where Christ’s body had been deposited on the third day, they were astounded to discover that the body had vanished and only the cloths that had covered him remained. Christ presented himself and verified that he had resurrected only a week later.
