Beginning from February 1, Italy will relax Covid-19 restrictions for all tourists from European Union countries, according to the country’s health ministry.
According to a release, Minister of Health Roberto Speranza has signed an order requiring merely a “green pass” for travelers from EU countries.
The “Green Pass” is a document that verifies Covid-19 immunity through vaccination, illness, or a negative test.
Concerns over the spread of the Omicron strain of the coronavirus prompted Italy to decide on December 14 that all EU visitors must take a test before leaving. Speranza’s directive also extends the green light for travel to a number of non-European tourist locations, including Cuba, Singapore, Turkey, Thailand (restricted to the island of Phuket), Oman, and French Polynesia, according to the ministry.
Italy established five “Covid-free tourist corridors” in September 2021: Maldives, Seychelles, Mauritius, Egypt (but just Sharm El Sheikh and Marsa Alam), Dominican Republic, and Aruba.
The health ministry recorded 167,206 Covid-19-related cases on Wednesday, down from 186,740 the day before, and 426 deaths, down from 468 the day before.
