Classical to Pop: 10 String Quartet Songs For Your Wedding

Classical to Pop

Weddings and string musicians go hand-in-hand. While traditionally, many prefer string duos and trios, a string quartet is a better option, with outdoor weddings seeing an all-time rise. But with that choice comes the difficulty of choosing the songs you want the quartet to play. If you don’t already have an “our” song, here are 10 songs, ranging from classical to pop to jazz, to give a try.

  1. Air on the G String by J.S. Bach

If there’s one song that screams elegant, it is Bach’s Air on the G String from the 1700s. Known for its musical excellence, this is a great choice for a string quartet performance, especially for lavish and elegant weddings.

  1. At Last by Etta James

When it comes to eternal love evocated poignantly, there is simply nothing better than Etta James’ At Last in the languid lines of violins and viola accompanied by the gentle rhythms of the cello. This one screams wedding song!

  1. Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours) by Stevie Wonder

This popular Stevie Wonder soul song translates surprisingly wonderfully to a string quartet. It’s energetic and musically distinct from other typical wedding music, making it ideal for an upbeat wedding party only if you don’t mind some guests trying to sing along.

  1. Prelude on ‘Rhosymedre’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams

Yet another classical music fitting for weddings is Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Prelude on ‘Rhosymedre.’ Originally a hymn tune, it was re-orchestrated by Williams, resulting in a piece that’s been played during Princes Harry and Williams’ weddings.

  1. Marry You by Bruno Mars

Perhaps the biggest and most popular pop wedding song is Bruno Mars’ Marry You. This one has been covered by many and requested by several couples for their wedding. Slight fast-paced but eloquent, this one is a default wedding song.

  1. Canon in D by Johann Pachelbel

With delicate harmonies, Johann Pachelbel’s Canon in D is a piece of timeless wedding music. You may have heard this one is almost any wedding you may have attended. It doesn’t get any more classic than this piece.

  1. Fly Me To The Moon by Frank Sinatra

Love Jazz and the 60s? Fly Me To The Moon by the legendary Frank Sinatra is the One for you. This astronomically famous song is perfect for a chill wedding, transporting you into the world of hot jazz.

  1. All of Me by John Legend

If there’s a song that screams the forever kind of love, it’s John Legend’s All of Me. With a string quartet, this song becomes one of the most memorable and beautiful wedding songs to be played.

  1. A Thousand Years by Christina Perri

Released in 2011, Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years had become one of the classic love songs of the modern time. Playing this in a string quartet at a wedding is a no-brainer as it’s about knowing you’ve met the one.

  1. Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran

Ed Shereen made this song, considering it as his’ walking down the aisle’ song. When you listen to this one played by a string quartet, you will understand why he thought of that. Easy on the ears and affirming, this one is a great wedding song.

Conclusion

From serving as a mood-setter to being the song the newly wedded couple would dance, the song played by the live band or a string quartet plays an important role in the wedding. Therefore, they must be chosen carefully and based on your preferences and your partners’ to ensure both of you enjoy the musicIf you are interested to know about Guitar Lessons, you can take help from The Modern Music Academy.
