On Sunday, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan warned that the expansion of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s attack in Ukraine is not surprising to American intelligence. “Vladimir Putin is frustrated because his forces are not making the kind of progress he expected against major cities, including (capital) Kyiv; the fact that he is expanding the number of targets, lashing out, and trying to cause damage in every part of the country (reflects that),” Sullivan told CNN in an interview.
Russia’s aim has been to assault Ukraine from all sides, including the north, south, east, and west, according to Sullivan. China “was aware” that Putin was “planning something,” according to Sullivan, but Beijing “may not have realized the full magnitude of it.” “It’s probable Putin lied to them in the same manner he lied to Europeans and others,” says the author “Sullivan explained.
Sullivan spoke as US Vice President Joe Biden maintained that the US will not send troops to Ukraine and that no US personnel are already stationed there.
“However, we will defend every inch of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) territory while also attempting to provide military help to Ukrainian warriors who are valiantly defending their homes and cities,” he said.
Sullivan also stated that Biden has regular touch with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“That is the dialogue that matters, because Ukraine will ultimately have to make its own sovereign judgments on the direction of any future diplomacy. From the US standpoint, we’re here to maintain contact with all of the key actors, including the French, Germans, Israelis, and others, but ultimately to help the Ukrainians. And, as things stand today, Vladimir Putin does not appear to be willing to halt the assault,” he continued.
