How Powerful is the Hightower in House of the Dragon?

The story of House of the Dragon is about three very powerful families and how they fight for power against each other.

The Targaryens are the most famous family because they ride dragons and have been on the Iron Throne for a long time. The Velaryons rule the sea, and the Hightowers are married to the Targaryens, but they have many reasons to want to see them destroyed.

Like the Targaryens, the Hightowers are one of the oldest families, and they have kept some power and influence over the years. According to A Wiki of Fire and Ice, there are rumors that some of them practice dark arts like alchemy and necromancy in addition to following the Faith of the Seven.

In House of the Dragon, the main Hightower with Otto and Alicent becomes the mother of a Targaryen who decides to fight her half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen for her throne after her father names her as his successor.

Who are the Hightower in House of the Dragon?

First, you should know that the Hightowers are from Oldtown, which was the most powerful city before King’s Landing and where they made a lot of money. The city let the Targaryens in when Aegon I was taking over. Aegon I goes on to become the most powerful ruler in all seven kingdoms.

Oberyn and Elia Martell pass through Oldtown on their way to Casterly Rock, where they are going to get married to Cersei and Jaime Lannister, but things don’t go as planned.

Otto Hightower

On the show Elementary, Rhys Ifans plays Sherlock Holmes’s brother. In Game of Thrones, he plays Otto Hightower, who is King Viserys I’s Hand of the King. When the king’s wife dies, Otto arranges for his daughter Alicent to become the new wife. She and the king had three children together.

Alicent Hightower

Alicent and Otto’s relationship with Demon Targaryen, Viserys’s younger brother, is complicated, and they want to get rid of Rhaenyra, whom their father chose as his successor, making her the first woman to sit on the Iron Throne. She is the one who backs her son and encourages him to fight for the throne. This is how the famous Dance of the Dragons came to be.

Aegon II Targaryens

Viserys I’s first son with his second wife was Tom Glynn-Carney, who was in the movies Dunkirk and The King. When his father dies, her sister Rhaenyra will take over the throne, so he decides to challenge her, make himself king, and become her enemy during the Civil War, when the Targaryens fight against each other.
