Cholesterol Levels: Everything You Need to Know About It

Chest Pain

Most of us associate cholesterol with weight gain and obesity, but did you know that even someone who appears to be skinny can have high cholesterol levels? In her most recent video, Indian celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar explains just this. Rujuta clarified that cholesterol is not the same as fat, explaining that it is properly known as Lipoprotein and is made up of fats and proteins, as the name implies. She went on to say that cholesterol is classified into three categories: healthy, bad, and very bad cholesterol.

Cholesterol Levels: Everything You Need to Know About It

She went on to say that HDL (High-Density Lipoprotein) is healthy cholesterol because it contains more protein and less fat, which protects the heart. When compared to HDL, Low-Density Lipoprotein (LDL) contains more fat. “This is why it is referred to be bad cholesterol, but we are now learning that it is not as harmful as previously thought. It performs a variety of functions, including producing hormones, synthesizing vitamin D, acting as an antioxidant, and aiding in the production of energy.”

She then discussed Very Low-Density Lipoprotein (VLDL), also known as “bad cholesterol” because of its low protein content. She also mentioned triglycerides, which the specialist described as “pure fat” and suggested that the lower the number, the better.

When it comes to the effect of diet on cholesterol levels, Rujuta claims that naturally fatty foods like eggs, milk, and meat are not to be concerned about. “Consume food in the manner of your grandma. If you’re going to eat an egg, make sure you eat it whole. If you eat meat, limit yourself to three times per week rather than every day.”

She went on to say that while peanuts, cashew nuts, and coconut are not to be avoided, they should not be used with alcohol, as many people do. She also stated that air frying is not superior to deep frying. “Quantity what is important,” she explained.

When it comes to cooking oils, she claims that it is necessary to use oil based on where you are from. Exercise, smoking, alcohol, hereditary factors, age, and gender, among other things, all play a role in determining your cholesterol levels, she said. “Diets that eliminate fats, carbohydrates, and long periods of fasting can raise cholesterol levels.”

Avoiding packaged meals, according to Rujuta Diwekar, can help lower cholesterol levels significantly. She believes that staying active requires at least three hours of exercise every week, with a focus on strength training. She went on to say that stress and a lack of sleep are also factors in heart and liver problems.

According to Rujuta Diwekar, the emphasis is on being fit on the inside rather than seeming fit on the exterior.
