When the first season of Shield Hero Rising ended in 2019, fans of the anime series immediately wondered when Shield Hero season 2 would be released. Luckily for them, they won’t have to wait too long for the premiere. This anime in the dark fantasy “isekai” genre is an adaptation of a series of short stories by author Aneko Yusagi. The story revolves around Naofumi Iwatami, an otaku who is chosen as one of the cardinal heroes of the parallel world and armed with the legendary shield.
Along with the other cardinal heroes, he is tasked with fighting hordes of monsters called Waves. But everything changes when Naofumi is falsely accused of sexually assaulting his partner and his possessions are taken from him. Naofumi spends most of the series trying not only to destroy the Waves but also to restore his reputation in the community.
“The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2” has generated controversy among anime fans as well as criticism from sites such as Anime News Network and CBR due to its questionable use of sexual violence as a plot point. However, the first season appears to have been a rating success. Crunchyroll even reported that the anime series helped to significantly increase sales of novels and manga. With such success, a new season of the series seemed inevitable.

What is the premiere date of The Rising of Shield Hero season 2?
Ctrunxhool’s The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2 premiere date was not immediately known, but the confirmation of the second or third season was not long in coming. According to Anime News Network, during the series’ presentation at Crunchyroll Expo 2019, it was confirmed that Shield Hero season 2 and 3 of the anime series were coming, but no release date was given for either at the time. Then, the following year, it was announced at the 2020 virtual Crunchyroll Expo that the second season would be released in 2021.
Finally, in March of this year, the release window was narrowed even further thanks to Kadokawa’s Expo 2020, where it was revealed that the second season will premiere in October 2021. Although no specific date was given for that month, the October premiere was confirmed thanks to a tweet from Crunchyroll, which will stream the series in the United States as it already did with the first season.
Who is joining the cast of the Rising Of Shield Hero season 2?
While the trailer for “The Rising of the Shield Hero season 2” only told us about the upcoming adventures of Naofumi and his group, it also offered information on who will be joining the cast of the second season. And from what we can see now, most of the actors from the first season will be returning for this one. They are Kaito Ishikawa (Naofumi), Asami Seto (Raftalia), Rina Hidaka (Philo), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Ren Amaki), Makoto Takahashi (Motoyasu Kitamura), Yoshitaka Yamaya (Itsuki Kawasumi) and Maaya Uchida (Melchi).
The trailer also confirmed some changes in the team for the second season. For example, Masato Jinbo will replace Takao Abo as director this season. And while the first season of the series featured animation studio Kinema Citrus, for the second season they will be partnering with South Korean animation studio DR Movie. The anime’s character designer Masahiro Suwa will return, as will soundtrack composer Kevin Penkin.
What is the plot of The Rising of Shield Hero season 2?
The official synopsis of The Rising of Shield Hero Season 2 is not yet known. However, judging from the official trailer, the upcoming season will be a continuation of the first season. In the Season 1 finale, Naofumi fought Glass, a hero similar to the otherworldly protagonist known as “Fan Hero.”
Glass reveals that he believes the Cardinal Heroes and the Waves are somehow connected. He decides to destroy the Cardinal Heroes, believing that this will stop the hordes of monsters and ultimately save his world. Glass falls short in the end, so we’re sure to see more of her in the second season.
It is also likely that we will see the continuation of Naofumi’s adventures outside the kingdom. Originally, the kingdom to which Naofumi was transported kept the existence of the other countries a secret from him and the other heroes. In fact, these other countries are facing waves and have not received any help. After Naofumi decides to leave the kingdom at the end of the first season, we will probably see how the rest of the parallel world has been maintained.
