Broccoli and Mushroom Salad for Immunity to Fight Covid-19
As the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic wreaks havoc in India, the most important thing to do is stay at home, wear face masks, and observe all precautions. You’ve probably heard these three things before, but now is the time to put them into action. Apart from doing all of these vital procedures, we must also strengthen our immunity.
On Saturday morning, India reported around 4.01 lakh (4,01,078) new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to over 2.18 crore. We need to eat immunity-boosting foods because we are going through such a difficult time. So, for today’s Build Your Immunity to Fight Covid segment, we spoke with Dr. Namita Nadar, a diet and wellness consultant who also serves as the head of Fortis’ clinical nutrition department.
Dr. Namita Nadar recommends a simple broccoli and mushroom salad to enhance immunity and combat various illnesses. This salad is high in Vitamin C and D, as well as calcium and fiber.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound broccoli
1 pound mushrooms
HOW DO YOU MAKE A SALAD?
In a small amount of olive oil, sauté the mushrooms. After that, transfer the sautéed mushrooms to a bowl. Toss in the raw broccoli. To make the dressing, put some olive oil into a mixing bowl and season with oregano powder to taste. Serve after thoroughly mixing the ingredients.
WHEN SHOULD THE SALAD BE SERVED?
Dr. Nadar recommends eating the salad as a meal rather than mixing it with their lunch because the nutrients are lost. This salad can be eaten as a lunch replacement or as a mid-afternoon snack. She went on to say that if you want to have the salad in the evening, you may serve it with a bowl of soup. It will be a nutritious and immune-boosting supper.
Many people are unaware, according to Dr. Nadar, that broccoli is also high in Vitamin C. If someone wants to improve their Vitamin C consumption, she recommends eating broccoli with citrus fruits.
In fact, it’s loaded in calcium and fiber. “The best thing about this plant is that it may be eaten raw, without being cooked. As a result, the broccoli’s original nutrients are preserved. When you prepare it, over half of the nutrients are lost “she stated
MUSHROOM
“Vitamin D is abundant in mushrooms. Vitamin D is currently particularly vital during the Covid-19 pandemic. Vitamin D is the most essential receptor in all T cells and C cells, which are termed immunity cells, and it helps to increase our immunity “Dr. Nadar explained.
