The astronauts who will go to the International Space Station on the next voyage must like antique nostalgia.
NASA has created a new poster to commemorate the approaching SpaceX Crew-4 launch to the orbiting laboratory, and it has a unique retro flavor.
Astronaut Bob Hines, who will pilot the journey, said in a tweet on Wednesday that the aesthetic was inspired by national park posters from the 1930s and 1940s. The vintage park advertisements were created by the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project.
Astronaut Kjell Lindgren expressed gratitude to Johnson Space Center graphic artist Cindy Bush for bringing the idea to life.

If you find it difficult to believe that a legitimate federal agency would create official marketing material like this, you may not have been paying attention. Previous NASA posters have parodied Star Wars, with everyone costumed as Jedi knights, The Beatles’ Abbey Road album cover, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Harry Potter, and The Matrix, to mention a few.
NASA astronauts Lindgren, Hines, Jessica Watkins, and ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti began their official quarantine for the Crew-4 mission on Thursday. The flight will not take departure before April 21.
NASA postponed Crew-4 in order to spread out missions at the space station. The Axiom mission, the first all-private space station expedition, landed Saturday, a day later than anticipated, to provide teams time to “finish final spacecraft preparation” before the voyage, according to NASA.
