First Solar Eclipse 2022: Here’s the Date and Time

solar eclipse 2022

Some parts of the world will witness the first partial solar eclipse of the year on Saturday, April 30. According to NASA, the ‘Black Moon’ will block out some of the Sun throughout the day, shortly before and after sunset, resulting in a partial eclipse.

The ‘Black Moon’ is a very rare occurrence, and there was none in 2021. According to Space.com, there is no specific definition for ‘Black Moon’. However, the phrase is most commonly used to allude to a number of New Moon-related events.

It can be observed in groups along the northern coast of Antarctica, in the Falkland Islands, and throughout the South Pacific and Southern Ocean.

According to NASA, a solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth, casting shadows on the Earth. A partial solar eclipse, which will happen on Saturday, April 30, occurs when the Moon obscures only a section of the Sun’s disc, creating the appearance that it is cutting a circular chunk out of it.

The impending eclipse will block over 65 percent of the Sun at its peak, NASA reports. Two solar and lunar eclipses are likely this year. The next eclipse will also be partial, and it won’t happen until October.

The largest eclipse, or when the axis of the moon’s shadow cone is closest to Earth’s center, will occur over the Southern Ocean (see green star), around 300 miles (480 kilometers) northwest of Yelcho Base, a Chilean Antarctic Research Base near South Bay, Doumer Island.

The sun will barely clear the west-northwest horizon, with about two-thirds of its diameter (63.96 percent) covered behind the moon, as seen from a ship or trawler near this location. With the sun’s rays, the ordinarily dense haze on the horizon might thin and redden, giving it the look of a slice of cantaloupe melon. Unfortunately, the Northern Hemisphere will not be able to see any of the eclipse.

However, you can get ready for the upcoming solar eclipses by reading our advice on how to properly shoot a solar eclipse. Our recommendations to the best cameras for astrophotography and the best lenses for astrophotography can assist you in selecting the best equipment to capture them on film.

Know the date and time of the partial solar eclipse in 2022 below:

Some guidelines for observing a solar eclipse safely include:

1. Project the picture of the sun onto a piece of white cardboard or a similarly colored sheet of paper using a pinhole camera, binoculars, or a telescope, and observe the sun’s “shadow” on the paper.

2. Look at the sun for brief periods of time using specially designed “eclipse glasses,” but proceed with caution.

3. Look at the sun through a No. 13 or No. 14 welder’s glass for short periods of time; this will likewise appear to turn the sun a shade of green.

4. Do not look at the sun via smoked glass, polarizing filters that are crossed, or colored water. Although they appear to dim the sun, the sun’s infrared rays will still pass through.

5. If you don’t know what you’re doing, don’t gaze through a telescope, even with a specialized filter. Any filter you employ should be put in front of the eyepiece, not behind it.

Attractions Coming

The second solar eclipse of 2022 will occur on October 25. This eclipse will be a partial eclipse, just like the one in April, but the moon’s penumbral shadow will fall on the Northern Hemisphere this time.

Northern and eastern Africa, most of Europe (excluding southern Spain and Portugal), the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent, and a region of northern and western Russia will all be able to see the event. The biggest eclipse will occur over Russia, with the moon covering 86 percent of the sun’s diameter.

Two solar eclipses will occur in 2023, both of which will be central. A “hybrid” eclipse, defined as an annular eclipse that transitions to total, then returns to annular before concluding, will be visible from the Indian Ocean, extreme western Australia, New Guinea, and the Pacific Ocean on April 20, 2023.

An annular solar eclipse will sweep from Oregon’s Pacific coast to the Texas Gulf Coast on October 14, 2023. The annularity track will also move across Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, through Central America, and into northern South America. A partial eclipse will be visible across most of the Western Hemisphere.

Returning to the forthcoming solar eclipse, we wish you clear skies and a safe watching experience if you are among the almost 100 million people who live within the South American eclipse viewing zone.
