In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday that Russia had successfully tested the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, the world’s most powerful missile capable of breaching any missile defense. It is colloquially referred to as Satan.
The successful test of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, according to Putin, is a large and significant event for Russia’s defense, and it will make Russia’s opponents think twice.

1. The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the northern Arkhangelsk region, roughly 800 kilometers north of Moscow, according to the defence ministry.
2. During the first test launch, the missile reached targets in the Kamchatka peninsula in Russia’s far east, some 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) distant.
3. The rocket weighs more than 200 tonnes and is capable of transporting numerous warheads, possibly more than ten.
4. Sarmat, according to Russian media, is a three-stage, liquid-fueled missile with a range of 18,000 kilometers and a launch weight of 208.1 metric tons. The missile has a length of 35.3 meters and a diameter of 3 meters.
5. It is believed that, in addition to 10 large warheads, it can carry 16 smaller ones, a mix of warheads and countermeasures, or hypersonic boost-glide vehicles.
6. The missile has been in development for several years, and the test comes as no surprise to Western governments.
7. According to the Pentagon, the test is normal and poses no threat to the United States or its allies. The Pentagon stated that Moscow correctly alerted the US prior to the Sarmat test launch. The United States postponed its Minuteman III ICBM test on March 2 in order to avoid worsening tensions with Russia, the Pentagon said.
8. Once testing is completed, Russia’s nuclear forces will begin receiving the new missile “in the autumn of this year,” according to sources.
