Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan unveiled the 94th Academy Awards nominees through a livestream on Tuesday. The winners will be announced in Los Angeles on March 27.
The Best Picture nomination for Adam McKay’s Don’t Look Up and the Best International Feature nomination for the Bhutanese film Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom are among the biggest surprises. With 12 nominations, Netflix’s The Power of the Dog has topped this year’s Oscar nominations. Dune, the sci-fi epic, came in second with ten nods.
The academy has not yet finalized its plans for this year’s show, except that it will feature a host for the first time since 2018. The Academy Awards will also be without their normal lead-in, for better or worse. The Golden Globes were an untelevised non-event in January when NBC said it would no longer broadcast it in 2022, while the troubled Hollywood Foreign Press reorganized itself in the wake of ethics and diversity criticism.
