Novak Djokovic’s visa has been revoked for the second time, only three days before the Australian Open in 2022. The judgment was made on Friday, and as a result, the tournament’s No. 1 seed in the men’s bracket is once again risking deportation.
Due to “public interest,” Immigration Minister Alex Hawke used “ministerial discretion” to reject the tennis star’s visa on Friday. Djokovic’s lawyers filed a new appeal shortly after Hawke’s decision, attempting to get Djokovic’s visa cancellation overturned, and had an after-hours hearing in Federal Circuit and Family Court.
At the hearing, Judge Anthony Kelly, who had previously determined that Djokovic could remain in Australia despite being unvaccinated against COVID-19, was present. The event administrators had granted Djokovic an exemption.
