‘Who Will be the next?’ As Russia Unveils New Plan, Zelensky Issues a Warning

Russia’s offensive in Ukraine is just getting started, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday, calling for nations to band together against the Kremlin and put an end to its expansionist goals. Meanwhile, as the war enters its last two months, Moscow has disclosed that, in addition to the east, it also aims to seize the south of Ukraine.

With no sign of a cease-fire in sight, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will visit both nations and speak with their presidents next week.

3. “Control over the south of Ukraine is another road to Transdniestria, where there is also evidence of the oppression of the Russian-speaking community,” Minnekayev said at a gathering in Russia’s central Sverdlovsk area, according to TASS.

4. Even while both sides resumed discussions, Russia’s foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, warned that diplomatic efforts to end the war were stuck.

5. Ukraine is hopeful that the humanitarian route in Mariupol will be open on Saturday.

6. Next week, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will meet with Zelensky in Ukraine, following a stop in Moscow to engage with Russia’s Vladimir Putin about the war. More than 20 countries are expected to join next week’s Ukraine talks in Germany, which will be hosted by the United States.

7. Despite the fact that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated on Friday that the war may not be over soon, Ukraine Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told CNN in an interview: “We are completely certain that Ukraine will prevail in this war, and victory will be in (a) very short period.”

8. As Russian forces continue to arrive in the eastern Donetsk region, three civilians were killed and seven were injured in the shelling, according to an official quoted by the Associated Press.

9. Satellite imaging has suggested the presence of mass graves near Mariupol, the city pounded by eight weeks of fighting.

10. Russia has acknowledged the loss of the Moskva a week after a fire on the flagship in the Black Sea. According to the Associated Press, one serviceman died, 27 were missing, and 396 were rescued.
