Draupadi Murmu Becomes First Tribal President of India

As expected, Draupadi Murmu, a candidate for the NDA and a daughter of Odisha, made history by winning the important Presidential election that had the whole world’s attention. Draupadi Murmu beat Yashwant Sinha, the other candidate, to win the race to Raisina.

Draupadi Murmu, who used to be Governor of Jharkhand and is a veteran politician from Odisha, is now the 15th President of India.

Murmu, who is 64 years old, is the first President of a tribal group. She is also the second woman to hold the top job, after Pratibha Patil. The current president, Ram Nath Kovind, will finish his term on July 24. On July 25, 2022, Draupadi Murmu will be sworn in as the President of India.

After counting the votes of MPs in the first round, PC Mody, Secretary General of Rajya Sabha, said that Murmu had 540 votes worth 3,78,000 and Yashwant Sinha had 208 votes worth 1,45,600.

Draupadi Murmu had 809 of the 1,138 votes left after the second round of counting. Yashwant Sinha got 329 votes. Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha, PC Mody, said that “Vote papers from the first 10 states were counted in order of their names. There were 1138 valid votes, worth a total of $1,49,575. Draupadi Murmu got 809 votes, which were worth 1,05,299, and Yashwant Sinha got 329 votes, which were worth 44,276.”

After the third round of counting votes, Murmu was getting closer and closer to winning. In the third round, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Punjab, and Nagaland were covered. At the end of this round, there were 1,333 valid votes. There were 1,65,664 votes that were valid. Draupadi Murmu received 812 votes, while Yashwant Sinha got 521 votes.

After round 3, the total number of valid votes was 3219, worth a total of $8,38,839, and Draupadi Murmu got 2161 votes, worth $5,77,777. Yashwant Sinha got 1058 out of a possible 2,61,062 votes.

Before, the voting took place on July 18 at the Parliament House and in all State Assemblies. 99 percent of the 4,796 MPs and MLAs voted in the Presidential election, according to official sources.

Odisha, Delhi, and other parts of the country are filled with joy…

As soon as the first round of votes was counted and Draupadi Murmu had a big lead, celebrations broke out all over, including at her home in Rairangpur, Odisha. After the results were announced, more than 10,000 laddus were made and given to people in the area.

After NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu took a huge lead in the Presidential election, there were also celebrations in Bhubaneswar.

Baijayant Panda, the vice president of the BJP, called it a historic day and said, “There is tremendous excitement all over India, including in Assam.” Draupadi Murmu has had to fight and work hard, and she has been in the public eye for a long time. She has also made a great picture.”

Folk artists also did tribal dances on Mother Teresa Crescent Road in Delhi to celebrate Draupadi Murmu’s lead earlier in the day as the Presidential candidate for the NDA.

Leaders and activists of the BJP party came out in large numbers to celebrate Draupadi Murmu’s win. They danced and traded sweets, among other things. They did this at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar and in Delhi.

As Draupadi Murmu got closer to winning the election for president, the celebrations reached their peak.

Draupadi Murmu’s adventure thus far…

Murmu grew up in Odisha’s Uparbeda village, which is mostly made up of tribal people. She went to the Unit II Girl’s High School and got her matriculation in 1974. She went there for three years (Classes 8, 9, and 10) before continuing her education at Rama Devi Women’s College.

After she graduated from Rama Devi College, she worked for the Odisha government from 1979 to 1983 as a Junior Assistant in the Irrigation and Power Department. She started working as a teacher at the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre in Rairangpur in 1994. She stayed there until 1997. In the same year, she joined the BJP.

Murmu was chosen by the people of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat to be a councillor. In 2000, she became Chairperson of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat and National Vice-President of BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha.

Draupadi Murmu was a Minister in the Odisha government when the BJP and Biju Janata Dal worked together.

Later, on May 18, 2015, Draupadi Murmu became the first woman to be sworn in as Governor of Jharkhand.
