Lionel Messi Breaks Fastest Goal Record Against Australia

Listen to the Podcast:

The recently signed Inter Miami player Lionel Messi completed the entirety of the match, marking it as his final appearance prior to his transfer to the MLS and relocation to the United States.

Lionel Messi has broken yet another record, proving that there are still feats left for him to achieve. Lionel Messi, the Argentina captain, made a remarkable contribution in his final match before joining Inter Miami. He led his team to a 2-0 victory against Australia in a friendly match held in Beijing, China. Messi’s swift action helped his country secure an early lead.

Messi Scores Against Australia in 80 Seconds

Lionel Messi Breaks Fastest Goal Record Against Australia

In the first 90 seconds of the game, Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández took the ball from Matthew Leckie in the Socceroos’ half, drove forward, and found Messi. Messi, as usual, took a few touches to find the right angle and then curled in a left-footed shot that we must have seen at least 100 times before.

The goal was scored 80 seconds into the game, which is the quickest goal the former Barcelona star has ever scored in his entire career. And it’s not even close. His previous best was 126 seconds, which he set in a round-of-16 match for Barcelona against Chelsea in the Champions League in 2018.

When will Messi Make his Inter-Miami Debut?

Germán Pezzella, who came on as a substitute, scored Argentina’s second goal, giving them an easy win in Beijing. From there, they will go to Jakarta on Monday to play Indonesia. Messi played the full 90 minutes against Australia, but he won’t play for Lionel Scaloni’s team in their second friendly of the week. Instead, he will take some time off before moving to the United States. His Inter Miami debut is expected to come in July, possibly against Liga MX team Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.

Messi’s World Cup Career Probably Over

This week, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner said that it’s likely we’ve seen the last of him in the World Cup. He said that he “doesn’t think” he’ll play when Argentina defends their title in the US, Mexico, and Canada in 2026.
