On Tuesday, he was named to Twitter’s board of directors, and he expressed his enthusiasm for working with the board to create “major enhancements to Twitter in the coming months.”
Twitter Blue, which was launched in June, is the social media giant’s first subscription service for users wanting to pay for unique capabilities including an “Undo Tweet” tool, customizable Twitter app icons, and the opportunity to add bookmarks.
Musk recommended that there should be no commercials and that the subscription price be reduced in a series of tweets on Saturday.
He wrote, “Everyone who signs up for Twitter Blue (i.e., pays $3/month) should get an authentication checkmark.”
“Price should probably be $2/month,” he added, “but I paid 12 months upfront and the account didn’t get a checkmark for 60 days (watch for CC chargebacks) and was suspended with no refund if used for scam/spam.”
“And no commercials.” If Twitter relies on advertising revenue to stay afloat, companies have a lot more ability to dictate policy,” he noted.
Musk also suggested that the pricing be “proportionate to affordability and in local currencies.”
“Perhaps even a Doge option?” he wondered, alluding to the cryptocurrency.
Only the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand have access to Twitter Blue.
Subscribers can edit their tweet before it goes live using the undo option. It isn’t an edit feature, as many Twitter users have asked for. “It’s not an edit button,” the firm explained, “but an opportunity to preview and change your Tweet before it’s posted for everybody to see.”
