There are a lot of driving aids in new cars that make it easier to drive and keep both the people in the car and other people on the road safer. Many of these systems come with the vehicles by default, while others can be added as an option or come with the top-of-the-line versions.
If you’re thinking about buying a new car, it’s interesting to know about the active safety systems in vehicles. So, you can decide if it’s worth it to pay extra for a system that you can add as an option to your car or if the basic equipment is enough. The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has done a study to find out which driver assistance systems really help drivers and which ones don’t.
In its study, the OCU asked more than 1,250 drivers about nine different safety systems:
What are the most common systems in cars?
The OCU study shows that the rear view camera and the tire pressure alert are the two security features that most cars have. But even though these are two very popular and common systems, there are still a lot of cars that don’t have them.
What are the systems most valued by drivers?
The three systems that drivers who took the OCU survey liked the most were the parking sensors, the system that alerts the driver when the tire pressure is low, and the blind spot detector.
The study also comes to a few other interesting conclusions. And the answer is that 73 percent of the people surveyed think that active safety systems in vehicles are useful when driving outside of the city, while 68 percent think they are also useful when driving in the city. On the other hand, 65 percent of people who use this technology trust it, while 19 percent think it gives inaccurate or false alarms. Lastly, keep in mind that only a small number of the people polled think these security systems are loud and annoying, while 11% think they make driving less fun.
