Meta is apparently considering creating “Zuck Bucks,” a virtual currency that customers can use across all of the company’s products. They must have heard that we support capitalism.
According to the Financial Times, Meta is considering implementing a centralized in-app money system that would be shared across all of its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Meta appears to be concerned about the future of its finances as a result of Facebook’s declining popularity, forcing it to look for methods to diversify beyond ad revenue and better engage users.
Though not officially named “Zuck Bucks,” internal staff are said to have given the project the moniker in honor of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
It’s uncertain how this system will function. However, by a stroke of luck, this virtual currency is unlikely to be linked to the blockchain. Rather, it is expected to function similarly to the in-game currency seen in many mobile games. Such currencies are frequently available for purchase with real money and can be used to purchase in-app bonuses and cosmetics, such as clothing to change a video game character’s appearance.
That’s right, microtransactions could be coming to Facebook.
Of course, it’s equally possible that it won’t. According to reports, Meta’s money is still in the works and may never be implemented. When Editorialge inquired about the development, Meta refuses to confirm or deny it.
A Meta representative told Editorialge, “We have no developments to share today.” “We’re always thinking about new product ideas for individuals, businesses, and creators. We’re focusing on creating for the metaverse as a firm, which includes how payments and financial services might appear.”
Meta is also rumored to be exploring introducing creator-specific coins linked to Instagram influencers, as well as tokens awarded to users who contribute to Facebook groups. Though it’s possible that posting to Facebook groups could eventually be rewarded, it could mean that connecting on the network for the sake of being sociable is losing its luster.
