WhatsApp New Reactions Starts Arriving on Android: Here’s How these Work
With a new update last week, WhatsApp users were able to start using emoji reactions. But not many users on either Android or iOS got the update. This makes sense since updates with new features are often tested on a small group of users first to see if there are any weird bugs that haven’t been fixed.
But the feature is now being rolled out to more WhatsApp users. With a new update for both Android and iOS devices, more people can now use the emoji reaction feature.
On Facebook Messenger and Instagram, you can already use emoji reactions. It lets people respond to each message with an emoji in their own way. On iOS, Android, and WhatsApp Web, you can see the reactions in both group and one-on-one chats. When WhatsApp confirmed its “Community” feature, which will be released later this year, the feature was first announced. This is how the feature looks on an iOS device.
WhatsApp emoji reaction: Here’s how to use
As seen in the picture, which was taken from the WhatsApp app for iOS, users will have six pre-selected emojis to choose from when responding to a message. When a user holds down on a message for a long time, the six emojis will appear. Then, users can just tap on the emoji they want to send as a response.
Right now, there are six emojis: a thumbs up, a heart, a laughing face, a shocked face, a sad face with a teardrop, and a praying face. These six emojis can’t be changed, so you can’t respond with a different one, at least for now. But this feature could be added to the platform in the future.
Reports say that WhatsApp might also add sticker reactions and GIF reactions. These features were recently seen on a developer build, and they might make it to stable builds in the future.
In other news, WhatsApp is also trying out emoji reactions for status updates. This feature, which is also in beta right now, will let people respond to other people’s status updates with emojis, just like on Instagram. A leaked report says that WhatsApp for Desktop will have eight fixed reactions, but it’s still not clear how many we’ll have on Android and iOS.
